<div class="IPBDescription">For cosmetic purposes only</div>Don't make it do damage, just make a really cool effect that makes everyone know it's gg. It would be a lot more climactic than the end game we have now.
not really gg. If there were backup CCs this would be really weird. I've also played one game where the aliens pulled off a successful last ditch cloaked comm chair rush (the marines no longer had a comm late game) and the marines managed to win with a lmg rush on our last hive since they still had their upgrades and aliens had no lifeforms, which was why we rushed the comm chair. (That was a great game, btw.)
Still, for NS2, i expect more dramatic ends to all structures than them disappearing in a wisp of smoke. gibs or something of the kind would be nice.
We need something that signals the Marines are pretty much screwed unless they pull something off on an epic scale. A massive explosion could be the Marine side's ping of death without the constant health loss.
Or, at the least, each building could have a death sequence. The IP breaks apart into pieces, the obs's dish falls off and it tips onto its side, the arm's lab screen shatters on the floor and the building causes a small explosion, something like that.
Or, for something a cooler, dynamic building damage would be nice. Show dents, bite marks, and let bits fall off the machine.

Buildings actually showing destruction other than just magically disappearing would be pleasing esthetically. (Wouldn't want it to add to much to development time though)
About something "dramatic" to end the game; what about some female computer voice saying something e.g. "station controls lost, overwhelming infestation...etc"?
Of course, anything might turn out repetitive, depending on how you implement it.

i think it would be very cool - once the last IP and CC are gone, alarms and sirens start whaling and red lights start flashing in the space station - if any players ares left would be overwhelmed by the atmosphere and not to mention it would much more interesting for players that are already dead and spectating
something similar could be done for aliens too - steam comming out of vents to clear the DI and bacteria - all of the lights turn on - bascially making the space station look very sterile
-Ping of death, as normal, occurs after the last hive lets out a long shriek -Computer announces that Infestation has been cleared to a very low level -Infestation is slowly cleared out by steam, etc. (thanks to schkorpio)
Aliens win:
-As suggested, the last CC would go out with a bang. -IPs, once all CCs are gone, (built or not) lose functionality. A warning announcement by the station's computer is played to confirm this. -As suggested, Computer goes on to announce that the station is overrun, and infestation has risen to a non-livable point. -The last announcement fades out, and the lights flicker out one by one. The remaining marines? Bait. They can be located on the map via hivesight.
Except that I hate the "ping of death" ...and personally? I want it permanently removed.
I love the thrill of the hunt for the last survivors!
And honestly, ping? Scent of Fear and SC chambers? Communication? It's not that hard to locate them if your team is competent. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

the only thing with the ping of death is that it shortens the game, say if the marines do a shotty rush and a gorge has 3 dc's in a vent it can be a while before marines get motion tracking to find it - which can get tedious for specators of the already squabbling alien team lol.
However I also love - either being the player hiding, or being on the team trying to out do the last surviving players
Perhaps instead of ping of death, motion tracking and SoF are automatically enabled to help find the last few players. And why not have a timer to see who can hold of the longest - with the scores being kept on the servers and shown in the ready room.

Ok sure, but it should be a server varible you can toggle as true/false instead of being just fixed to the casual mode and the default.

I think that's another topic with the dynamic building damage and i would hope it is already being thought about cause its a damn good idea. It should look and feel like something has been damaged. Css people would be envious with their crappy tables and fruit breaking into peices, and the exact peices everytime. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
