Makes sense. If the OP starts a thread, he doesn't want to tell you what he's talking about, because you don't know what he's talking about.
He's talking about the Halo 3 beta that people got when they bought the XBOX360 game Crackdown (the joke goes that the Halo 3 beta invite comes with a free copy of Crackdown). Frankly I couldn't care less about Halo; it's a good story and spectacular music pasted to a first person shooter that's halfway between boring and awful. Worse, it's from the guys who did Marathon, so you know they could have done better, and it used to be a very interesting 3rd person strategy/action hybrid until Microsoft decided they wanted Generic Sci-Fi Shooter #1675 to sell their XBOX.
Actually, when I said I couldn't care less about Halo, I was kind of lying. I don't really care about the game mechanics and stuff, but the huge number of people who seem to think that it doesn't get much better than that cause me no small amount of despair, anger, frustration, and torment. If console first person shooter games are really your thing, I can understand Goldeneye or something, but Halo's just an unappealing Unreal-esque shooter where everyone seems to float around and all the guns are boring. Except the needler which is useless. Not to mention the "everything is brown or grey" textures that seem to seize the game every once in a while.

What I've heard from other people, Halo 3 sounds like it's gonna be a good game. Maybe even a <i>great</i> game. Maybe. But I'm pretty sure it's not gonna suck. There probably won't be much bad to say about it, excpet for disliking the principles the game is based. But it looks and sounds like it's going to be a <i>very</i> well-polished game, possibly in the same league as MGS3: Subsistence in polished-ness.
Also, I wish more people had played Unreal Championship 2. Probably woulda been a hit if it came out for the PC. =/

Halo 3 for me is in my holy trinity of shooters. Its a damn fine game, and there are many that attain its level. Its not the best, but I'm not so idealistic that I must always compare a good game on one platform against one of another. I mean, hey, howabout that Devil May Cry 3 port, eh eh?
And as to those who didn't know what I was talking about: Then why the hell did you post in the thread?
No, I don't own a 360 or Crackdown. Halo 1 was a solid game, it was balanced, played well and multiplayer can be fun with friends. It had flaws (hello level design), but compared to many other games out there, it definitely was not a bad game.
But I do agree with Tycho, the point that drives me nuts is how people treat it like it was Gods gift to this earth. It was not that good. It was a game you played when you bought it, and pick up some multi once in a while when friends came over. That is about it. Halo fanboys are the worst to be around, surprisingly none of my friends are Halo fanboys...

And Parrot-of-war, I never actually played Halo 2 singleplayer (no XBOX) so I was just referring to Halo. I can definitely imagine them screwing up the story in the second installment though. They managed to screw just about everything else up the first time around.

I always thought halo was a bit boring. v <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> v
All the guns in it just seem so fake. I feel like I'm shooting a water pistol.
Also that flying car thing seemed pretty lame. Is it possible once two of them start circling each other to "break the loop" without getting blown up?

Halo wasn't the best game ever no, but it was a really damn good game.
Everybody always ###### about Halo 2's plot, actually I think people are regarding it wrong, it's trying to establish backstory and bring in new characters. My favorite part in Halo2 is where you get to beat up a Prophet, favoite weapons are definitely the sticky grenades and plasma sword. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
But to be honest though I hate the average Halo community. So it's really the single player I like most.
The best things about Halo are the novels the plot is based on and above all the MUSIC. It's the music combined with the environment's visuals and gameplay that gives the single player that epic feel. Without the music it'd not be as popular.
For a scary moment I thought this thread was going to be about the bug caused by Title Update 3 for Crackdown.
Halo 3? I didn't even care that much about 2. Halo 1 was enjoyable and I just couldn't be bothered chasing up the other two (didn't have an xbox) and the multiplayer of it I've played leave me with the impression it's pretty much Halo 1 with prettier graphics.
3's addition of forcefield grenades will be nice and all but I don't see what the hype was about. I would like to find out what happened with the story though as I never played Halo 2 in SP and the cutscene with the masterchief as a kid has me intrigued :3
Okay, the story in the games sucks then. The novels may be revelations of prose mastery, but that doesn't benefit the games in any way. What little story there was in the first Halo was okay, but nothing special. By contrast, the Marathon games had tons of story, and didn't require novels to actually convey any of it.
