<div class="IPBDescription">help me?</div>Hi . I have USB headset that works well with half-life and NS. The problem is i can only use my USB headset to chat ,i cant listen to other people voices with my headset. The voices come out from my speaker . Is there any way i can set the voice playback to my headset? , i know there are some options in audio settings (windows) about voice playback but i don't think those settings apply to HL.

Have you plugged in both cords for your headset? One cord is for your mic, and one for sound. Usually you have to unplug your speakers and plug the headsets second cord into the speaker slot unless you have an extra slot.

    as silly as it sounds:

    Unplug your speakers?

Or see if you can change the soundcard that is being used by HL. I think the way USB headsets work is that they technically act as a soundcard.

Well i'm trying to get voices exclusively on my headset and all other sounds in the speakers. I can do that easily with newer games but HL is giving me troubles (and i think i was able to do it with one of the older version pre-steam , can't remember how).

    .....

I have no clue how you could do that.

And if you figgure it out, let me know, for that is pure awsome.

Could you give examples of new games that you can do it? (and how you did it?)

HMM , can't remember right now. I think it works with Battlefield 2 or SW: Battlefront . After you finish installing a voicetweak like utility opens. There's one option where you have to select what device you want for the voice playback . If you have a USB headset you can select it otherwise you can only choose your soundcard . I think you could do it in Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory too.

On a side note : i don't know if you can do this on non-usb headset (i have never owned one)

well, yah, you would have to have 2 sound cards for that to work (one soundcard processing ingame sounds, and the other processing voice chat). A USB headset is basicly a soundcard (if memory serves me, I havn't bothered with one in ages) for all intents and purposes.

Unfortunatly HL does not process the VC seperatly from the rest of the ingame sound.

If you were to use a 3rd party piece of software (vent etc) it might work (tell vet to use the usb headset).

But that is all I can think of.

I remember that there was a suggestion made to have this type of hardware behaviour supported. Right now you can't do what you are trying to do.
