Oooh, but it doesn't work. Too bad. So sad. Good news though:

<a href="http://community.enemyterritory.com/index.php?q=node/55" target="_blank">The beloved beta is not too far away</a>.

My new computer isn't going to be purchased until sometime August, so I'll have to live vicariously through richer/less patient people like DOOManiac, but boy oh boy, I'm excited for this baby. Assuming they don't screw it up which they definitely could.

Cant wait. I do hope this game is good as I really need a good team based shooter.

Except Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, which this is based off of, came before Battlefield 2.

Wasn't ET more of a straight-up action game? Where this is more of a Battlefield 2-esque game. Either way, hardly Quake from what I've seen. Why even use the name if it's not going to emulate the source material at all? Woulda been fine with a different name.

I don't think you quite grasp the underlying concepts of the game.

First, Enemy Territory. Enemy Territory (the Wolfenstein version) is an objective-based team combat game that puts a lot of stock in teamwork and cooperation. It's different from the Battlefield series in that the combat is a ton less realistic and is more Quake-y. The first one was set in the Wolfenstein setting, so it was a bunch of World War 2 maps, weapons, and objectives, but it still played a lot like Quake or something instead of Battlefield 1942.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is set in the Quake universe. It tells the story of the invasion of Earth by the Strogg, the prequel to your actions in the Quake series of single player games. The gameplay isn't like Battlefield 2 so much as it's like RTCW:ET, which itself is like Quake.

What I saw had modern-world based weapons, slow movement, vehicles, and all the other things in every boring sub-par FPS that's come out in the past 5 or so years. I dunno, looks like every other single mass combat game ever. I could give it a second look, but I just watched a bunch of stuff on it last month.

Will my AMD 4000+ 1GB ram and 7600GT run this fine?

I'd be pretty confident if I were you. At worst, you'd probably have to tune some options down, but, yeah, I think it should be able to <i>run</i>...

I'll ask puzl or some other admin before being a dirty advertiser, but 'that' Gameserver Community, you know, 'that' one, will be hosting at least a server, most likely as many as we can. We're in the process of hassling Splash Damage for Ranking status. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

So if anyone wants to play with 'us', you should look us up.

The fun thing about ET was the advancement system. As you went through the map cycle as a certain class, you gained exp in that class. You did this by performing actions related to that class. In addition, there was a generic "solider" pool that everyone got which gave you basic arms skills and was related to getting kills with basic arms. You stared with level 0 in all pools and as you leveled up you gained access to more exotic abilities. Some of these were simple "You have less recoil" or "You have more ammo" but some of them were much more advanced. For example, the ultimate medic ability "Adrenaline boost" was gained at level 4. With this booster, you could spend 2 res syringes on yourself to enjoy temporary protection. All damage received would be halved and you had infinite endurance for about 10 seconds, but used your entire "energy" bar used for generating medkits and the like.

Supposedly, this game will have an upgrade system similar to enemy territory, and THAT is the part of the game I am excited about - because the one in ET was so well done.

I heard that he was going to do one more project and then retire. I searched Google and apparently it was just a rumor, or at least I was confused about what the 'next project' is. I thought it was Quake Wars. ><

Well he's going to retire someday, somehow. It's still tragic :(

Dude, I don't even want to know what kind of stuff you're smoking to wander in to a thread about Quake Wars and post a video from Crysis acting like you're talking about the same thing everyone else is.

Your life must be so trippy.

From what other people have said:

There are 5 days of signup, with a limited number of keys each day (no idea how many, 10 000?). The first 3 days only subscribers can signup. The remaining 2 days, anyone can. Thankfully I have a FP subscription so I am already in <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

I hear that's happening to a lot of people. You have to just lie and say you have a Cray or Deep Blue or something before it lets you in.

When does it tell you to bugger off? I can start the game, create an offline account and play with the settings without it saying my computer isn't good enough:

    X1800XT 512 meg,
    AMD 3700+ processor,
2 gig dual channel PC3200 ram
