bitter is hardly the word i'd use. half of me is sorry for seeing such a relatively relaxed and open admin team get bored of ns and replaced by a dogmatic tribunal
the other half is grateful for the fact that i cant join the server anymore since im known to demostrate masochistic tendencies from time to time, given the opportunity

Yeah. Amber was started with bots to draw people on it (and mostly because it was fun to go 100-0 against some bots for the hell of it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ). We're now changing Amber to be less about the bots and more about the custom combat gameplay for PvP, not PvB. I always tell everyone--our servers are for the community, and I always like to hear what you guys would like to see changed/modified/whatever across any of our servers. You can see our Custom NS and Classic NS servers in my Sig, and a search for Amber Alert will show you are custom combat server. Feel free to PM me or visit our forums if you have questions/comments about anything.
Oh and of course, I play on the IAM servers <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
you get permabanned from G4B2S for being a tard. as long as you don't cheat or break rules you can kill all you want. the problem is many forget that <b>being respectful to other players is a rule</b>.
that being said i play at g4b2s and MT1/MT2 when i ragequit from Guns and/or feel like helping out newbies.
and more players play forms of NS that the devs don't curtail to then those the devs do. seriously 6v6 vanilla NS and combat <10 players vanlla have been dead since their inception. the fact of the matter is is that there is more desire for large games than small games and if the devs want financial success they're going to have to understand that. argue with me about which is better all you want, i don't care. a larger player base gets more money, end of story.

Well that's the case for all games isn't it? Quakeworld was mostly about large DM games, instead of 1v1 or TDM, in public. CS is more about 16-32 player publics than 5v5 competetives. Starcraft was more about BGH than 1v1 Lost Temple. NS is more about 20 player modded CO, and 32p NS servers than 6v6.
There's nothing that says you need to go either way. What a game needs to be successful is make both ways of playing the game possible.
Many times I'll seed the Evolve public servers, because there are few rules, very few plugins, and a wide spectrum of players will join. I've only seen one person kicked there and that was because everyone wanted him gone because he was annoying.
OldF is the only other server I've ever been able to consistently have good games. Good players and very few rules. My theory is the game was designed to have rules built in and once you start adding large numbers of rules or rules that people consider stupid such as: no bunny hopping, commander is not allowed to open/close doors, not being allowed to evolve into higher life forms in combat, etc.. It pisses people off and then they grief your server. I've seen it happen countless, countless times. The more restrictive the rules, the crazier the attacks. OldF never gets grief'ed but I've seen Cor get grief'ed many times.
OldF was definitely my favorite back when the regs still played there a lot, and fully agreeing with tekproxy here that was the #1 reason I played there- only real rules were have fun and don't hack, and some of their server regulars were actually pretty good players.
These days I just server hop and try to find a decent game where I can at least get a medpack once in a while, have had some okay games on OldF, g4b2s, IAM, and TG although TG's rigid admin micromanagement gets a little annoyingly excessive sometimes.
I also enjoy rocking sherpa on YO, that never gets old.
edit: I also used to play on aussie servers, those were a blast especially when the entire server playerbase started calling each other c *** s.
