Anims with subtitles : replace subtitles ?

<div class="IPBDescription">Anim files with or without subtitle files</div>Is it possible to replace the subtitles of an anim file even if it doesn't come with a separate subtitle file ?

If so, how ?

My wife would love to watch one anim I have but she doesn't understand English. It would be easier to replace those subtitles with something else.

Oh and how would I actually transfer them to DVDs so she can watch them on the DVD player and not my PC ?

I'm afraid you'll not be able to remove subtitles from a video if it doesn't have a seperate subtitle file - reason being that it means that the subtitles are embedded in the actual video.

You can however add subtitles in addition to the current ones - on top perhaps :S though, I don't know of any software to do it. also, making it part of the video file would mean you'd need to re-encode the entire video, now that would take a while ;P, Though, making the subtitles a seperate file might be a problem when it comes to moving the video to a DVD player compatible format - or getting them shown right so you can actually read them (considering there's another layer of subtitles below embedded in the video D:)..

There might be a magical program of magic that can easily burn a/some video(s) to a DVD and allow you to put subs and whatnot on it, but I don't know of one :X

Depends on what the file is, is it .mkv, .avi, or etc ?

.mkv format, you can easily edit the subtitles, remove it, change the font style, auto fix grammar, etc.

Other formats may or may not act similarly.

most container formats (avi, mkv) support "soft subs" (the placing of subtitles next to the video stream allowing the application to chose how to display them, if at all.) those are relatively trivial to edit or remove. "hard subs" (subtitles placed directly onto the video) are another matter altogether.

Ok, lets say worst case scenario. I get the RAW version and do it myself. What would I need and how to do it ?

If you get the raw versions with no subtitles, you could translate them yourself with the same timing as another subtitle file for it or something.
