I just finished trying to kill people in a new source mod called "Insurgency", and it recalled the memory of playing 1.04 when multiple onos's are rampaging around. O the futility of a gun! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/asrifle.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::asrifle::" border="0" alt="asrifle.gif" />
I never did kill anyone in Insurgency (though i spent an hour playing it). I did see the opposing team about 10 times out of my 20ish deaths. The ten deaths that I did see the opposing team in...I pretty much instantly died.
There was no map and everyone camped (even though the objective to take move forward). As such, everyone camped and anyone trying to move forward instantly and painfully died due to 3 gameplay reasons:
1) no crosshair when sprinting,
2) no crosshair even when walking unless you choose to go into 'iron-sights' mode that effectively zooms your view in; however, the accuracy when walking isn't even that great as I missed about 4-5 times...,
3) the people laying prone (behind sand bags, cars, birms, holes, windows, barrels, doorways, posts, more sandbags, and even the 'so far away you can't see them, but the sniper can zoom through the haze and shoot your head off') can aim a hellavulot more accurately than you can.
There is a commander that is supposed to be giving orders, but no one can figure out how that works...
The directional pointing of where you need to go isn't as obvious or intuitive as it should be given that there is no map.
Did I already mention that there are no crosshairs under normal circumstances unless you want a zoomed in version or have tacked a center dot onto your monitor?
Other properties of Insurgency are:
-Camping is king.
-Those who turn corners are foolish! Never turn corners. Let the other foolish team turn the corner first and be taught the lesson.
-Nades are ...OMFG... inaccurate.
-FF is on.
-Spawns are cramped and sometimes only have one way out.
-Slow gameplay as everyone camps--even the assaulting team. So much so, that in one instance the defending team actually walked into the marine's spawn and killed everyone...EXCEPT THE CAMPER with his back to the wall in a small nook. Literally...WTF?
-Spawns are slow.
-Everyone ignores the objective, and there is no obvious timer telling you how much time is left.
-Less FPS than in CS:S.
-10x more ways to get camp-killed than in CS:S
-Forced to choose a class according to the availability of it in a squad. (sniper is always chosen! YAA, one class that does have a decent crosshair...and the squad can only have one!).
-Stupid inconviences that aren't really worth mentioning..but they ARE there.

Please, don't let NS2 become anything...anything resembling Insurgency (a supposed FPS-RTS).
