The Longest Journey

anyone play this oldie?
This game came out on Steam recently for $10. I'm having a lot of fun with it. I missed it when it came out years ago. It got great reviews. a classic Roberta Williams-esque adventure game, overflowing with style and voice-acted dialogue, translated into something like 12 languages. atmosphere is kinda fantasy-meets-steampunk.

I haven't been able to sink my teeth into a good non-combat adventure game in years. I never finished Syberia either - I should go back and give that one a go as well...

Awesome game. The second gam in the series, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, is even better imo. For the story at least.

I bought dreamfall and "acquired" the longest journey, preferred the longest journey (zoe's an idiot, lack of a diary and april's remarks). Can't wait for the third part. (see this link for the writer's blog)

i got it on steam, too. some of the puzzles are stupid (washing line + rubber duck + train tracks = fuse box key for the cinema) but it creates its own world(s) pretty succesfully.

I grew up playing adventure games and TLG is one of the finest made.

It's pretty graphically dated these days, but i really urge people to give it a shot. The voice acting's pretty good, the story's fun and you really do get value for money here, it's not called The Longest Journey for nothing.

I recently picked up the Dreamfall limited edition in GAME for £15, i'd suggest any uk posters to go see if they can pick one up. For that £15 you get The Longest Journey on DVD, Dreamfall, hardcover art book and soundtrack cd. It's a pretty nice pack, 2 great games for a pretty nice price.

Yeah, I love The Longest Journey, it's an classic.

Haven't tried Dreamfall though. From what I hear Dreamfall has some silly combat. What's that all about? :P

Monkey Island 4 had Monkey Combat. It must be an adventure game thing.

The combat system is easy and stuff, I think mainly it's there to keep interest up through rather story-heavy bits as Dreamfall is definitely more story less puzzle than the first game.

bah, I'm stuck... and I'm not above using spoilers, as long as I understand the 'logic' behind them... but there's this horrid puzzle underneath the ocean and even with spoilers, I can't understand how on earth anyone could figure it out. even reading the solution, I don't understand the logic behind it, if there is any. anyone remember what I'm talking about and care to explain? it involves placing 4 glowing 3-sided blocks around this disc, featuring very abstract symbols. it is teh suck.
