<div class="IPBDescription">Firefight = bad ping?</div>Hallo <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Has been playing NS before but for some reason I stopped playing.
I downloaded it again the other day but whenever a fight happens on the screen (Like 4 rines vs 6 "aliens" + some turrets... Or something like that) my ping drops to 300+ :S

The last time I played NS I didn't have that problem and everything runned smoothly.

I can't remember my PC specs but it runs all the new games pretty good and I got a 2/1mbit connection. So that can't be the problem?

Hope someone can tell me if there is some commands for the console that could help <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

(And sorry for my bad english <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> )

As a basic test you can change your rates to see if the problem changes.

    try the following

    rate 14000
    cl_cmdrate 40
    cl_updaterate 60
    ex_interp 0

If this makes the problem better or worse then your solution might be to tweak these values a bit more. Come back here and report what happens and we can help you some more.

    PS: Welcome back to NS.

What puzl suggest is nice, but skip ex_interp 0 if you're going to play on pubs.

Why would you skip ex_interp 0? it just auto sets your interp to a good value ( 1/updaterate )

ex_interp 0 is the best setting when the opponents are <100ms. (IMO)

For above 100ms keep it at 0.1.

I find ex_interp 0 works perfectly, but it doesn't work everyone, know quite a few people who it just makes it really laggy for them (mainly probably because they have their updaterate too high). Best way to do it is to set it to 0 then keep increasing it by 0.005 till everything stops being jumpy.

    cl_rate 9999
    cl_cmdbackup "2" //default value
    cl_cmdrate "80" // fps + 5
    cl_updaterate "50"
    rate 20000
    ex_interp 0
    ex_extrapmax "1.8"

Is what i use for marines, gives perfect reg at normal ping, and pretty consistent reg on US servers as well.
