So if you were given a choice between a male and a female avatar which one would you choose? and why? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

The male night elves are stupid, but the male dwarves are the only good looking dwarves, and the male gnomes the only good looking gnomes. The male human looks pretty good IMHO. For the Horde, when it comes to trolls and orcs there's no contest, and tauren look about the same. The undead male does look pretty crappy though.

Depends on whichever avatar provides the better advantages. (Read: If the female avatar has higher int but lower str, I will play a male warrior, but a female mage)
For FPS its more or less: Which avatar is the smaller target <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Whichever is....
Better modelled Better animated (a good example which people have used is WoW, I always find a lot of female models look like they're 'missing' frames) Less irritating sounds (if applcable)
It really depends on what context you're speaking. What 'avatar' are we talking about?
As long as it's not anime it really doesn't matter. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

That reminds me: the exception to this is Starsiege: Tribes, where I played as a female because the light armor model of them was skinnier. It gave me a pyschological advantage.
I usually use female avatars. I figure if I'm going to play a game for a long period of time, I might as well have an avatar that is more interesting to look at.

I play as a male because I don't find myself staring at my avatar's ass for six hours on end rather than plundering and owning across the seas as a badass swashbuckler. Find a new game if you're staring at someones butt.
You mean like a forum avatar? I'd go with a dude or some strange graphic done by some obscure DeviantArtist. I don't go for female avatars unless, I've drawn them myself. Muhahaha. I'm looking at you Nancy.

I don't like the idea of sad nerds sending me tells because of my avatar. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />
I think we covered this before in that thread about 'How to spot a faker' on men picking girl avatars and pretending to be girls so that they can profit off of stupidity.
When I'm feeling sympathetic and looking to group for the greater good or better gameplay experience I play a female avatar. When I want blood, carnage and mayhem I go with a male avatar.

I play female exclusively. I tried playing a male char once or twice in the past but I ended up freaking people out so I gave up on that.
One of my friends tends to play male chars though and she never has any problems. She's quite quiet though so maybe I'm too friendly and chatty or something? :/

Female, 'cause I've yet to see any really badly done female models, but Male ones are sometimes terrible(read: WoW).

I'm male and have no reason to hide what I am.
