<div class="IPBDescription">Some really sweet wildflowers.</div>I went backpacking this weekend north of Lake Tahoe. Figured some of these might make good desktop backgrounds for people. The wildflowers were the best I've ever seen. If you want to see the pictures, check them out at picasa: <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/ryanmoulton/TahoeNationalForestWarrenLakeTrail72829" target="_blank">http://picasaweb.google.com/ryanmoulton/Ta...nLakeTrail72829</a>

You should go! It's a little expensive to get started in it, but after that it's the cheapest vacation possible. See if you can borrow equipment from someone, or get involved with the Sierra Club. They have lessons in backpacking pretty often I believe and probably gear to rent. You could also try to get involved as a leader of an active Boy Scout troop. Then you can learn along with the kids, and have a great excuse to take trips. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Very cool, thanks for sharing! I love it when people post their adventures pictures - lets me live vicariously a little bit.

Today I start my diet / exercise program in an attempt to drop down to slightly more than my marathon-running weight from years past. Once I get part way there I'll be able to try something like this. When I ran, hills and bridges were such a cool challenge for me - I know this would be right up my alley.
i should go out on some trails by where my parents use to live, crazy cool scenery out that way (kentucky)

Indeed! I grew up in Cincinnati and my Boy Scout troop went to Kentucky for most of our camping trips. Getting some Ale 8 at a gas station was a tradition that kicked off the weekend. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Two places I highly recommend for backpacking/hiking are Red River Gorge and Cumberland Gap.
I've been to Red River Gorge more recently, so I can give you more information on it.
First off, here's pictures from the last time I went backpacking there: <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/ryanmoulton/Spring2005Backpacking" target="_blank">http://picasaweb.google.com/ryanmoulton/Sp...2005Backpacking</a>
And in here you'll find pictures from the last time I went hiking there: <a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/ryanmoulton/Summer2006" target="_blank">http://picasaweb.google.com/ryanmoulton/Summer2006</a>
One of my friends was looking for information on the park sometime last year, so I made a blog post in which I annotated a map of the area with the locations of a lot of cool stuff. You can find that here: <a href="http://moultano.blogspot.com/2006/08/red-river-gorge-info.html" target="_blank">Red River Gorge info</a>
There are also some good resources online: <a href="http://www.google.com/search?q=red+river+gorge" target="_blank">http://www.google.com/search?q=red+river+gorge</a>
If you go there, there are two things you have to do. First off, you have to see Gray's Arch. Secondly, you have to chew on some fresh Wintergreen that you can find growing near one of the trails.
Assuming your location of Louisville Kentucky is accurate, here's some driving directions to the place we started our backpacking trip from in the first set of pictures, and the place we camped in the second set of pictures:
<a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=Louisville,+KY&daddr=37.785368,-83.638573&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=13&mra=dme&sll=37.79812,-83.660545&sspn=0.061853,0.105057&ie=UTF8&ll=37.785911,-83.648186&spn=0.061863,0.105057&z=13&om=1" target="_blank">http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&...p;z=13&om=1</a>
And here's the map I annotated:
<a href="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/693/3098/1600/areamap_annotated_small.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/693/3098/400/areamap_annotated_small.jpg" border="0" alt="IPB Image" /></a>
I don't know as much about Cumberland Gap since it's been a longer time since I was there, but some of my fondest memories of backpacking are from backpacking there. Check out the National Park Service page on it: <a href="http://www.nps.gov/cuga/" target="_blank">http://www.nps.gov/cuga/</a>
Unfortunately I don't remember enough to have any specific recommendations to make on trails. Hope this is useful! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

You should give it a try before you get there <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />. It's a great way to kickstart exercising, and one of the great things about backpacking is that you feel like you can eat whatever you want and you'll immediately burn it. I ate half a pound of cheese last weekend and still lost weight. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> Let me know if you have any questions about anything, or need gear recommendations or anything else. I don't know of any trails in Florida personally, but I'd imagine the southern bits of the Appalachian Trail aren't too far away.
Pretty pretty though!
Its all about 2 hours away from louisville.
