    533 MB on my account. Part of that is because I was in charge of sending stuff out for a mailing list for a year, and received lots of emails with stuff to put in those emails.

    If you have nearly 3 GB, why bother chucking it?

    You never know when you might need something for reference.

    Honestly, one of the things I use the most is if I need to remember exactly when something happened I can look back to the general time and then see what my random emails/chats from then contained.

    gmail doesn't do partial word matching, so it is really effective for narrowing down searches if you have a good idea of the message contents. I just archive everything, I find it very useful. I've found all kinds of stuff I know I would have lost normally e.g. details on exploit reports. It is much better to file mails to specific folders and delete the crud.. but it takes so much time.. I get around fifty mails a day.
