<div class="IPBDescription">An idea for new game types/maps based on TSA background</div><b><u>EDIT: This is a round up of my ideas for anyone who can not be bothered to read the random ramblings of brainstorming that I go into further down the page.</u>
New game type or maps involving influential Constellation members (see link below for background).
These would involve game types/maps with things like:
1) Saving a Constellation member and/or his/her family from the Kharaa.
2) Retrieving important documents and equipment.
3) Taking Kharaa eggs to storage and trying to save them as the Kharaa.
<i>Numbers relate to Numbers <u>underlined</u> in text below.</i>
Achieving these goals would result in res boosts or winning the game.
Please read the rest of the brainstorming for what I imagine happening.</b>
<div align="center">#############Original post (EDITED so its not so messy)##################</div>
I was reading the background on NS again the other day and found <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns/static/world/constellation.html" target="_blank">this</a>, which got me thinking about a new game type or map idea.
What if there was a game type/map (for NS2) where the marines had to do things for influential Constellation members?
<div align="center">-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------</div>
For example, <b><u>(1)</u></b> <b>a space station has been taken over by Kharaa</b>, unfortunately <b>the space station was owned by a Constellation member and his family who were on board at the time.</b> <b>The marines must save the Constellation member and his family (I know a little too CS but give it a chance <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ), and destroy the hives.</b> <b>The family members have locked themselves in various rooms around the map and must be welded free and taken back to Marine Start or a drop pod or something similar.</b>
The aliens could try and kill the family as they were taken to safety, but the marines might get a lot of extra <b>res or something for each family member saved?</b> Perhaps the <b>doors open (for some reason) automatically after a certain amount of time and the family flee in any direction</b>, then the aliens have a chance to get the res by killing them and if the marines find the family members they can lead them back to base and get the res?
The marines might just win when they find they save the family and killing the hives might not be important. Or maybe the family are in one of the hives and the hive needs to be destroyed to set them free and get them back to the safety of marine start or whatever?
<b>Perhaps the family are just bots or maybe they are other players who can use things in the rooms to get out and try and find their way to marine start, maybe these players don’t get a mini map, and the level has lots of little rooms that the players are randomly spawned in?? </b> Some of these rooms might have welders in or wieldable structures in or vents that lead to other small rooms, where it is easier to get out?
Maybe some of these rooms have keypads and a player can try and work out the code??
Maybe some of these rooms are even connected to the outside via vents, but the room might be a weapons hold or something and so players starting in those rooms connected to the outside might be able to defend themselves until they can work out a way to climb out (stacking boxes or something??) or are saved.
I imagine these rooms wouldn’t be able to be built in by commanders, as that would just mean they could drop PGs in and everyone could get out, but then again the players might not be able to build Marine structures?? <b>I dunno all ideas?!?</b>
<div align="center">-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------</div>
Another idea might be that some <b><u>(2)</u></b> <b>valuable equipment is in a place where the Kharaa have made their home; say a prototype for an experimental weapon (or just some kind of machinery or maybe even just a briefcase <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />) made/owned by a company run by a very influential Constellation member who has asked the TSA to send out the Frontiersmen to retrieve it?</b>
There could be one in each hive and all must be retrieved and the hives destroyed (or just one in a hive)? The marines might then be able to use the weapons after retrieving them, which might give them the winning advantage? But then maybe skulks can pick these weapons up and take them to other places on the map, delaying the marines chances of winning?
The game could end if the marines don’t retrieve the weapons in a certain time, perhaps the Power Generator (for wherever they are) will explode after X minuets, or if they are just wiped out by the aliens??
<div align="center">-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------</div>
<i>I haven’t really thought that much into the idea and I know that it sounds pretty similar to many other FPS (like CS obviously, “save the hostages” and what have you), but with a good back story (like the Constellation) and the commanders role, the games would be more interesting. And unlike combat (that I feel ads very little to the back story and strategy) I imagine it would add a meaningful addition to the background of Natural Selection. Although I imagine it will have limited appeal and perhaps restricted uses; but then again Counter Strike managed to make a whole game out of pretty much just saving hostages... oh and some bomb stuff <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ; so feel free to prove me wrong.</i>
Also I haven’t thought about whether there is an equivalent game type for the Kharaa, so if anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them!
<div align="center">-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------</div>
Maybe <b><u>(3)</u></b> <b>the Marines have a shipment of stolen Kharaa eggs and the Hive mind has instructed the aliens to get them back off the marines? The marines could be on a slow moving cargo train (even the ones we have seen in the concept art); going through a vast network of an old mining colony with their stolen eggs and the hives could be positioned along their route (maybe the hives are set up at the start of the game, maybe not?? Or maybe it’s just positioned mid way along the route...?) The Kharaa must retrieve the eggs; perhaps touching an egg allows them to pick it up (it might look silly)?? And then take them back to a hive. </b> <b>The marines must get the eggs out of the mining colony and to a cargo ship or something??</b>
Maybe if the alien carrying an egg gets killed they loose the egg (scrambled egg!), or it is just dropped??
Perhaps the Marine start is on the cargo train or way back where they started (or where they end) and they must stop the train and unlock/build PGs along the way which allows them to catch up with the cargo train??
<b>I guess the winning team would be the one with the most eggs at the end of the game, or perhaps this is just a mini game before the actual game begins?</b> Say, for example, that <b>each egg is worth X amount in Res, and then when the marines get to the cargo ship they are told they must go back and kill the hives </b> (Perhaps the aliens now get to put up the rest of their hives?). The marines and Kharaa then might get X amount of res times the amount of eggs they got? This might allow the aliens to put up all the hives quickly or the marines to build a really good base. Of course RTs would still be able to be capped and the marines might get an extra one when they get to the cargo ship or something.
<div align="center">-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------</div>
<b>As always this is just an idea (for a map or an extra game type) so anything you want to say on the idea, even if it is just NO, please feel free but give some reasons.
What do you think?</b>

Second, that others have had very similar ideas, such as this thread:
<a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?s=8431998387407153152&showtopic=100642" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....howtopic=100642</a>
Third, while I think the brain storming is cool, as an opening post I suggest formating it for easier reading, such as bullet points and a general outline of some type, perhaps using underline and bold type.

First off, let me say I really like this idea(s).

Ooo <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />, I'll read that link in a min! And I'll format/edit my post after I have eaten.
Is that better CanadianWolverine??
