I noticed the quietude too <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> I keep trying to start threads about various big new games and they just don't catch hold =p seemed to be this way ever since the forum upgrade... I'm being forced to look elsewhere for nerd conversation, but there's nowhere as good <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

There has been a big drop since the site went down the second time. It's been less then a week and people were probably thinking that it wouldn't be up again so soon.

Since the forums were down for a whole year, I'm sure many people haven't even bothered to try coming back. That truly killed the forums; which sucks because this was the best place for discussion...

Not officially. I saw that same article and was like "wtf? Nobody told me." Although that interview was done during a time when we were all putting in 12+ hour days, 7 days a week. So anybody playing Bioshock was unofficially shunned (at least by me) for spending time doing anything besides sleeping and working.
In my case I've been playing NS for the first time in months (and actually doing some mapping and looking for jobs and ######). For other people, I'm guessing bioshock has something to do with it, or realising you haven't much time befor eyou're abck at school so maybe people are modding... for great justice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
2) The games getting older and the devs were slow to jump on the source band wagon
3) Theres lots of new games that sucked in lots of people from the community
4) Real life, many of us regulars were around 16 when the site first took off, now its time for college, work, and kids.
And yea, its the party weekend so its gonna be kinda dead for a few days. I'm broke as hell, so i'm stuck to my apartments pool, friends coming over for lans, and just plain ol' interwebs on my laptop.
Then there's the fact that the Natural Selection main site doesn't actually link to here anymore, which could reduce the number of peeps coming here from general discussion for instance. This forum now comes under Unknown Worlds forums, rather than NS. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't find the off-topic forum at work, since I always just use a bookmark. Now I feel silly.

Sure it was just a combination of all of the above.
Exactly.
... Probably not a significant reason for the quietness as of late. I'm going to put my money on the site outage.
SO, is BS actually banned in the Valve office?
No, Gabe Newell lied to us for some nefarious purpose.
I mean come on, what do you think? It's not like he runs around spouting lies, with the exception of release dates which we all ignore anyways.
Plus, The whole time being taken up by EVE, a soccer team, a side coding project, and a few cute girls makes my forum available time decrease.
