<div class="IPBDescription">It's EXTREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME</div>Hah, I know what you're thinking. You and your tiny little brain. You're thinking "gosh, Valve's going to sell Team Fortress 2, Episode 2, and Portal on Steam soon! I can even preorder it!" That's as far as your train of thought goes. That's the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega.

Pitiful.

I bring you news, dear reader, of Valve's other contribution to keeping you at your computer far beyond the point where you should have gone to bed. This contribution? <a href="http://www.steampowered.com/v/index.php?area=game&AppId=3483&cc=US" target="_blank">Peggle Extreme</a>.

<div align="center"><img src="http://www.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/3483/header.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Now with 80% more Extreme</div>

Peggle Extreme comes (exclusively?) with the Orange Box Prepurchase which you can read all about in <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=102591&view=findpost&p=1649014" target="_blank">this thread's sister post</a>. What's Peggle? Well, you ought to know, because it's basically what you'd get if you could snort Tetris like crack. It's that addictive basically. Why Peggle? Apparently it's so addictive that it has transformed much or even most of Valve into the Peggle equivalent of headcrab zombies.

<div align="center"><img src="http://www.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/3483/0000002654.1024x768.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Valve vs ASPCA: Round One. FIGHT!</div>

Peggle Extreme is like, an Orange Box flavored Peggle. It's got 10 levels which is less than Peggle Deluxe or even Peggle: Sold My Body To Buy One More Play, but it comes free with your preorder so there's to be no complaining, got that? It's Peggle! Can't complain about Peggle. Think of it as the Bioshock of, uh, addicting games? Why not.

<div align="center"><img src="http://www.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/3483/0000002653.1024x768.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

Discuss. Also:

Disturbing</div>

I think I'm the only one who never fell in love with Peggle. it's like Plinko on The Price is Right. It's kinda a one trick pony/unicorn.

    That said, it's pretty awesome that they did a Peggle/HL tie-in <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/marine.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::marine::" border="0" alt="marine.gif" />

I have absolutely no idea what peggle is, what the hell is going on in those pictures or how you play it, but PEGGLE MAN WOO!

You shoot bouncing balls at pegs. It's kinda like Pachinko, only the pegs retract once they've been hit and the ball is off the field. And you must hit certain pegs before you run out of balls. And there are flashies and sparklies and swishies everywhere and every level has some random gameplay element and every five levels have another random gameplay element.

    And stuff.

Peggle was a lot of fun, however, I found I closed the game before it ever ended naturally. The game is just way too easy. It's supposed to be a casual game but ( like stardust or geometry wars ) it takes ages to play a game when you get the hang of it.

The same sort of thing. It's like Breakout or whatever, except instead of disappearing immediately after they are hit with your ball, they go away after 5 seconds or whatever.

Oh yeah, maybe it's just five seconds. And yes, the blocks, they're just like pegs, only shaped like blocks instead of like pegs. Logic!

I see..and can you move the ball shooterer at the top?
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
No, the ball shooterer is static and you cannot change the course of the ball. It always fires in the exact same direction and at the exact same speed so every level plays out the same no matter what you do.

    Or maybe not. The one-hour demo is 15 megabytes off Steam, just give it a spin. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

the biggest thing i've been able to download on my dads pc is the zipped version of hydraIRC. wireless 56k internet isn't really that great.

The ball shooter sits there, but the little cannon attached to it rotates. You basically just put your cursor in the direction you want to fire and click. It's not timed or anything.

YouTube provides gameplay footage for those who don't know how it plays.

If it's the same as in plain vanilla Peggle, it's "An Die Freude," written by Schiller and put into song by Beethoven in his 9th symphony.
