<div class="IPBDescription">that are released between Sept and Dec</div>Anyone else got this problem ? Seems to me that every year there are always about 10 or so games spread over all of the gaming systems, but this year it seems like its gone a bit overboard. These are the games I'd like to buy/rent/play for the systems I have - not to mention the games i want to play on the ps3 and 360 which i can borrow off or hire. I just don't know how i'm going to find the time.

I don't really suffer this problem. Actually I suffer the opposite: I'm currently playing WoW not because it's thrilling and exhilarating, but because there's nothing better available currently. I can't wait until something worthwhile hits the market.

    Stranglehold
    Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, Team Fortress 2
Clive Baker's Jericho, if it's any good
    Unreal Tournament 3
    Crysis
    Gears of War, maybe
Call of Duty 4 Modern Combat
Blacksite Area 51, if it doesn't suck
Assassins Creed, if it also doesn't suck (lol Prince of Persia with a crowd)
    Pirates of the Burning Sea
    Quake Wars: Enemy Territory
    Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts
    Fortress Forever
Battlefield 2: Pirates, if it comes out

All that plus the many games I own that I want to replay or continue playing:

    Half-Life 2 and Half-life 2: Episode 1 (replay)
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (replay)
    Bioshock (replay)
    Red Orchestra (continue playing)
    Company of Heroes (continue playing)
Day of Defeat: Source (continue playing)
Battlefield 2 + mods (continue playing)
Knights of the Old Republic 2 with the Team Gizka Restoration Mod, if they finish soon which it looks like they might (replay)
    Oblivion + mods (replay)

And I just started college. And I have an ~8 page paper due every Wednesday. And many many pages of reading. And calculus. And other secondary papers. And I have to make friends. And eat and sleep. Ooooh boy.

Let me tell you right now about the Ghost Squad.

If it is the one i'm thinking of. We have 4 delux version of Ghost Squad at my work (dave and busters). Game is remarkably easy. Even on each lvl being on Stage 4, I beat the game in one credit.

Go to an arcade, play it, beat it. Don't waste the money. Unless if they switched it around a lot. Fun game, but replay is bleh.

That was a fun game, although one of the guns broke and now the front grip has been replaced by the owners with a wooden spoon and a button hanging by a wire. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Oh, I played the PC demo of Stranglehold. Unless you're completely and utterly obsessed with both Max Payne and Hardboiled, you can cross it off the list. Slightly fun, otherwise unremarkable.

Actually it is just an obsession with Hard Boiled (much of what we associate with Max Payne originates in Hard Boiled).

I WOULD play the demo, but it refuses to start on my computer.

    this makes me sad.

It's a crappy port job, or at least the demo is. It doesn't let you change the resolution or the controls unless you fiddle around with the shortcut and it forces you to watch a movie that's literally like 4 minutes long when you exit. LITERALLY 4 minutes. That you can't stop. Of gameplay footage of a game you <i>just played</i>.

Admittedly some of the footage is pretty cool. But 4 minutes! And forced!

The graphics are really nice, and the people especially look pretty cool. And nailing someone with a slow motion bullet to the groin doesn't get old very quickly. It's just a little bland, though.

    Games I must have

    PC
    Starcraft 2
    Spore
NS2!(that is provided it's done right)

    Wii
    Mario Galaxy
GH3(I don't own any other consoles)

    DS
    Zelda:PH

Games I will probably get at some point

    PC
    Orange Box

    Wii
    Metroid Prime 3
    SSB:Brawl

As more and more good games come out I....buy less.
For this year(as none of those PC games are coming out), I will spend, at minimum, $160 on 3 games.

Are we talking about the same game, or does the 360 demo look incredibly inferior? I played the demo on my friend's 360 and it looks awful.

I'm having enough trouble purchasing old games. I haven't even started with the new ones. Just got Descent: Freespace in the mail, and I've been playing through Homeworld. If only Bioshock wasn't released, I'd be able to get System Shock 2 for a decent price.

You know Freespace is free, right? With graphical updates and everything. They've added high res textures, spec maps, bloom, better models, a functional radar, the works. And it's 100% legal. And free! <a href="http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,50.0.html" target="_blank">Beats getting the old, busted copy in the mail IMHO</a>.

Yeah, but now I have the CD. That, and I forgot about the FreeSpace Source Code project.
  • TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
But the CD's mostly useless. I mean, if you want to play the unpatched version, with the old models, HUD, sounds, graphics, etc, in the original Freespace engine, with the broken radar, you're good, but it's so much better with the SCP anyways that downloading the few extra megs to get Freespace when you get everything else isn't really a problem.
  • MedHeadMedHead Join Date: 2002-12-19 Member: 11115Members, Constellation
While getting the new stuff with the source code is great (and I'm downloading it now), I really don't have a problem with the original version. I had a lot of fun with the game, years ago. The series hasn't been surpassed in its genre, in my opinion. I'm psyched about playing it again.

But like, better graphics! A working radar! Ships that aren't just gray blobby things! And TIE Fighter's better.

Another thing I noticed: that open source project you mentioned was for FreeSpace 2. I bought Descent: FreeSpace. While FreeSpace 2 is a good game and is better than the original in some respects, I recall liking the original game a bit more. I'm glad I bought the game either way.

As for the Underdogs comment for System Shock 2, I'd rather have the original disc. I'll buy it later, when the Bioshock fervor dies down.

The SCP includes a copy of Freespace 1 ported to the Freespace 2 engine. I agree that Freespace is in many ways better than FS2, but even if you never wanted to play FS2 at all, the original is much better on the new engine.
  • MedHeadMedHead Join Date: 2002-12-19 Member: 11115Members, Constellation
Bah. I didn't realize it did the original, too. Looks pretty good with the new engine. I don't regret my purchase, though. You know me. I like having the discs.

yup played the stranglehold demo - its fun for the first 5 minutes then its extermely repetitve.

i must say that the specialists mod for hl1 is still the best/most fun out all of these type of games.

Too bad it's near death, schkorpio. Personally I preferred 2.0 more than 3.0, but perhaps having other people to play against and more than three or so active non-RP servers made me become a bit biased against the later versions.
