NS crashes on start up

I've been playing NS on and off for the last 2 years and today during a game NS crashed with teh sound sticking and playing the same .5 seconds over and over. I had to close it using the task manager and was presented with a box telling me steam had just finished updating. Now everytime i load up NS i get stuck at the loading screen of 3 marines with the red lasers for about 2 seconds before the game closes. I've tried rebooting both steam and my computer to no affect and have done a full install of steam and NS and still can't load up NS. If anyone is having the same problem, if you disable the community overlay in the steam settings it stops the crash. Apparently they are working on a fix for it.
