<div class="IPBDescription">Mega Wicked Awesome Pirate Fun! In the sun.</div>Ahoy mateys! Talk Like a Pirate Day may be over, aye, but I bring ye news to warm yer innards after the passing of our great holiday.
What news, ye ask? Why, the release of <a href="http://www.bfpirates.com/" target="_blank">Battlefield Pirates 2</a>! What be Battlefield Pirates 2? Well, imagine ye have Battlefield 2. Ye replace all the guns with muskets and pistols (plus some others, like a grenade launcher), replace all the soldiers with pirates and their greatest non-Ninja nemesis, undead pirates, and all the vehicles with pirate ships of one type or another. Oh, yes, replace all them turrets with cannons. Aye, cannons. There also be cannons on the ships.
<div align="center"><img src="http://www.bfpcommunity.com/images/media/mar07/sd_1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Ye may not be able to tell, but the night maps are actually a little spooky. They remind me of that scene in the first <i>Pirates of the Caribbean</i> where the crew of the <i>Black Pearl</i> assaults the navy ship at night after walking underwater.</div>
To be tellin' the truth, at first I was a right bit dubious. The fun part (p<b>arrrr</b>t) of Battlefield 2 isn't shooting each other with guns, lads. It's the helicopters, tanks, jeeps, jets, and every once in a while some poor infantry guy. So what happens when ye take most of that out and just leave the infantry and some boats?
<div align="center"><img src="http://www.bfpcommunity.com/images/media/mar07/sd_9.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Deeaad mennnn tellll no taaaales. That's actually a voiceover in the game.</div>
Arrr, ye get a damn fine mod, ye do! Ye have to play it to get the full impact, but let me relate some of it to ye. Today, I stormed a church with grappling hooks and musket fire from a fort, but only after the enemy had made it past the fort's many cannons firing and established a beachead near the church.
<div align="center"><img src="http://www.bfpcommunity.com/images/media/mar07/flag_3.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
The flag of the evil Undead</div>
Today, me and some other lads loaded up a boat and cruised the waters between the islands the two teams were fightin' over, picking off enemys with the cannons as we went.
<div align="center"><img src="http://www.bfpcommunity.com/images/media/mar07/flag_1.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Arr, this be the flag of the Peglegs, the not-yet-Undead pirates</div>
Today, I lay prone on the highest rock on an island, sniping undead pirates out of a lighthouse. I charged across from one ship to another and hacked to pieces the defenders before firing on another enemy ship with their own cannons. I was part of a frantic back and forth skirmish through the swampy bayous in the middle of the night, with only musket flashes, gunsmoke, and silhouettes against the moon to find me enemy. I threw a barrel of rum at someone in order to heal them. I shot someone in the face with a musket, or missed and shot them in the face with a pistol, or missed again and hacked them to pieces with a sword, more times 'n I can remember.
<div align="center"><img src="http://bfpcommunity.com/images/media/deadcalm/7.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
This gets busier when both teams are firing muskets and pistols across, shooting cannons at each other, jumping down from higher up, and swinging across with grappling hooks.</div>
Arr, this mod be loaded with plenty of good stuff. The levels are exceedingly well designed, although I had some frame rate hits on the one where both teams basically storm each other's ship and that's it. The sound is amazing; the menu/loading music is great and I think it be different for each map, and each team has different voices and different voice messages. They sound just like pirates, too. It be quite pretty, especially the player models.
<div align="center"><img src="http://bfpcommunity.com/images/media/aug07/ships/cutter6.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
This be a cutter. Strangely, the swords do far more cutting than this here ship.</div>
There be some rough edges, though. Some of the ships are a little plain looking, and aside from the two giant ones in that one map the biggest only holds like 6 people (but it's still a beast). Sword fighting works a lot better than knife fighting in BF2 but it's still not exactly Dark Messiah, or even Oblivion. There are like 6 maps (same as TF2 I guess) but more would be great. And there's some bug where if you join a server playing a certain map it'll just quit, but if ye join the server later and let it change to that map ye'll be fine. Hats levitate approximately one foot away from everyone's head half the time.
<div align="center"><img src="http://bfpcommunity.com/images/media/june07/blue_bayou_11.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Now imagine three people lying prone on this here island, firing at distant enemies, and four other people engaged in a desperate melee using swords and pistols against five enemies who appeared from all sides.</div>
What are ye waiting for, ye bilgerat? Get it! I'll see ye in the game. I'll be the one with a musket.
Oh and you need to know how to make yer own shorcut, laddie. Ye should know how to do this already but if ye don't, add "+modPath mods/bfp2" to a shortcut to BF2. Arr. Avast. Shiver me timbers. Etc.

Yeah seriously there have never been undead pirates before. Except for Chuck LeChuck and his skeleton crew. And the undead pirates from <i>Pirates of the Caribbean</i>. And the ones from Battlefield Pirates, the original.
And several episodes of scooby doo <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
When you're playing you barely even notice them. It's more subtle ingame.
Which maps? Either 1 of the 6 or 3 of the 6 kick you if you join a server while it's running them, but switching to the map after the server starts works fine.
Dude it's not worth it. It's mildly entertaining at best and mediocre at worst. I had to nearly turn the sound off to avoid the annoying ass pirate talk. No one had a headset making it a pretty bad few matched.
Oh come on, the pirate talk is a thousand times better than the stupid military voices in default BF2. And I don't understand what you mean about the headsets.
No Pirate Ghost? Or is it Ghost Pirates??? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />

They're skeleton pirates. Actual ghost pirates would be invincible, I'd say, at least against cutlasses and stuff. Skeletons are better for the actual swords and muskets fighting, IMHO. A ship full of ghosts is spooky but it doesn't get your adrenaline surging when you board them or something. They just moan and stuff.
Point taken! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
