The problem is that he took a list of "scariest moments in games" and reduced it down to "a list of those games." Without the actual moments they're referring to, there's no way for us to know what they were thinking. I bet the Eternal Darkness one is the part with the bathtub, but really, we can't know.

Probably "The Suffering" on the original X-Box (although you can get it for PlayStation2 and PC as well). Playing it at 3am, in the pitch black and after watching a documentary on haunted prisons (it was on the game disc! How cool is that!) probably didn't help.
Great game though. I think the sequel is now down to budget prices too.

Well in MGS2, i was kind of wondering that aswell, but it was mainly confusion for it.
But for Eternal Darkness, i'll type it....
Your grandfather dies mysteriously and you travel to his estate to investigate the incident. So the scary part is when you walk into the bathroom, and everything is normal until there's a flash and the tub is filled with blood and a dead body is in the water with her eyes rolled back and you hear a woman screaming and than you realize that your the person in the bathtub...
And Esuna, that crawling girl part that i mentioned, was on the xbox version, and it was also directors cut, so they might've added it in there for the players who hadn't experianced the first game.
This was the first horror game I ever played, I was about 7 or 8 years old and it scared the absolute ###### out of me playing it with my friends in broad day light lol
looking at the graphics now, just goes to show how much imagination you have when you are a kid hah!

I loved stalker, it was an addicting wonderful game, that is, if you have the machine to run it, right now im running it on full graphics, maybe a few little cut outs like i disabled grass shadows and turned down the object detail one notch. but everything runs as smooth as possible, the lighting is just awesome.
And esuna, what are you talking about? are you saying that the ps2 version released the same day as the xbox version? if so... that doesn't really make a difference at all, the xbox version of tom clancy's splinter cell double agent came out the same day as the 360 version and the 360 version had a level that the xbox didn't and the xbox version had a level the 360 didn't...

I loved stalker so much, the snork was so scary the first time i saw it. I was down in the labs and it was walking through the flamer anomaly, i crouched down ready to shoot a dog (as it looked through the heat-bent dim light) and then it leaped at me. My wife was sleeping next to me and i was so surprised that it was a mutated human over a dog that i didn't know what to yell other than a distorted nnnOOOOOOO! as i flipped backwards in my chair haha. Scared the ###### out of her and my room mate came out not knowing wtf was going on lol
Doom 3 had its moments, i found the leaked alpha much scarier than the final. I played the alpha right around when it first got leaked, at the time the best graphics i had ever seen were from halo (lol). I could hardly get through the first room, it looked so damn real to me that just the thought of something coming at me was almost as real as it could get. I stepped down that first step and the loud CLANG made me pause the game for a few. Walking through the 2nd hall with the whispering just about made me quit, then the zombies came. It took just about everything i had not to freak out and quit hahaha. After that i relaxed a bit and moved on, the zombies rose again (alpha lulz) and came up behind me and scared the ###### out of me.
The 3rd level was the worst, going up to the mirror and having the pinky run up behind me was about the worst i had ever been scared, they should had included it in the final game as it was done so brilliantly (my god, why did they cut out so much good stuff like the pinky ripping through pipes, and john romeros actually good sounds over the newer zombie's sexual grunts and horrible not so scary noises?).

Just because i haven't played Fatal Frame 1 or 2 doesn't mean i'm missing out on every single horror game. Sheesh, i only get horror games i think i'll like... and so far that's worked out for me 100%
Also, I hate Silent Hill. Awful gameplay makes the scary parts uninteresting to me. That's why Fatal Frame rocks. I wouldn't mind some more stuff with ghosts, though. I got Fatal Frame 1 and 2 just for the fact it has traditional styled ghosts, because they're my favourite form of horror.

Games like Silent Hill aren't about the gameplay really(outside of the puzzles), they're about the atmosphere and story. Silent Hill 5 is supposed to have a new combat system that'll add to the gameplay, but hopefully it won't turn the direction RE did.

Undying's not that scary, either. Decent game, but you get that dumb dragon cannon early on.
For Liku, the problem with Silent Hill is that it's unejoyable for me with the gameplay it has. SH3 was just laughably bad. 90% of the game was spent dodging monsters while trying every door in the room. Stupid, and not creepy. I killed the first boss and never touched it again. The staticy TV scene in the mall creeped me out a bit though. Always been afraid of ###### like that.

If you didn't really get passed the mall in Silent Hill 3, i'd really suggest going back to it, the hospital and the abandoned offices are some of the high points in the Silent Hill series, along with the fact that just before you actually head to Silent Hill, the story starts to tie together with Silent Hill 1 and it really does have a great atmosphere to it.
Hopefully Silent Hill 5 will be an improvement on Silent Hill 4. I know Silent Hill 4 was originally made to be another game and eventually turned into a Silent Hill game, but the combat was abysmal and the point where you realise you have to backtrack through the entire game for an escort quest it really becomes pretty tiresome, but the comedy burping nurses and the general atmosphere in the game and the new enemies actually make it still fairly worthwhile playing. Silent Hill 4 did actually try to do something different to make combat a little less buttonmashing than it has been before by making you charge your swings and the like, hopefully Silent Hill 5 expands on that and finally makes the combat fun along with having a good story and amazing atmosphere.
And for once i wish i had a PSP just to play Silent Hill Origins.

first of all the proper way you should of said that is "Sounds crazy, doesn't it?"
And second of all, horror games that i thought I WOULD LIKE i have played or bought, since i only like games taht appeal to me... As everyone else does... other's that i didn't think i would like i didn't play or buy. So, what is your problem? Please, tell me, i'm dying to know.
And if your excuse is that i think or said that "I'm the horror master" than your wrong, because not once did i say that, or anything close to it.

"crazy as that sounds" or "as crazy as that sounds" is grammatically correct, shock horror, but hey let's attack grammer use good instead make talk discussion right?
second of all, sounds like you don't actually like horror games, that's cool, just don't make a thread about horror games, saying you enjoy horror games when infact you like the gaming equivalent of someone jumping out at you and shouting boo
who said you're the horror master, you didn't, i didn't, you said you enjoy horror games but haven't actually played any
why don't you bugger off back to facepunch
e: also, i'm still waiting, which of those popular and / or critically acclaimed paragons of the horror or survival horror genre have you actually played and please, tell me about them.
e2: sealed with a loving kiss
For Liku, the problem with Silent Hill is that it's unejoyable for me with the gameplay it has. SH3 was just laughably bad. 90% of the game was spent dodging monsters while trying every door in the room. Stupid, and not creepy. I killed the first boss and never touched it again. The staticy TV scene in the mall creeped me out a bit though. Always been afraid of ###### like that.

I've always played the Silent Hill games on easy combat and hard puzzles, you're right, half the game you spend just running around the monsters as opposed to actually fighting them, but the atmosphere really is the main part.
