alright. still pictures with music and frapsing an empty rpdesert apart from one zombie do not make for good gmod films.

Well i was trying to make it seem like an apocalypse, i mean... That was MY vision of what an apocalypse would be like, to me of course, you may think differently.

It might come as a shock, but this is the internet. We aren't all nice and constructive.

But for the sake of... oh what the hell I have nothing better to do.

-"Apocalypse" could you think of a more cliche name? Honestly. I hate people that use 'xtreem' words. FIRE DRAGON SLAYER APOCALYPSE XTREEM

-"Hybrid stigmata" what the hell does that even mean? Other then "hybrid" and "stigmata" being 'xtreem' words.

-Now I love zombies just as much as the next nerd, but they are overdone. Terribly overdone. Be original.

-Nothing ever happened, did you honestly think anybody would want to watch 3 minutes of still frames taken from a video game? Most of which weren't even animated?

-Your posing wasn't even that good, it was just boring.

-Just because you made something doesn't mean you should show it to people. We don't want to read you poetry. We don't want to see your fanfiction.

In the first video one of the pictures is just some dead guy. What the heck? Shouldn't he be a zombie? Isn't that the entire point of a zombie apocalypse?

but... but they were made by "dark assassin"

Well, sorry I can't offer you any positive praise to even out the bad. There's no substance to them. They are just material strewn together. I mean you say it's your idea of what an apocalypse is like but, it says nothing when you look at it. It's just images with no cohesion. You need to have at least some sort of structure.

you guys are harsh =p I can't really disagree with some of the criticisms here, but I do like the style and framing of some of your still frames in the first vid. if you like designing these things, keep practicing and refining and listen to criticism without taking it to heart.

well i mean there supposed to be various pictures of different places while the apocalypse is taking happening, sooo i can't really add structure to them unless i put bit labels on them which is just stupid.

This thread is quickly becoming awesome in so many ways.

Im close minded? Care to elaborate? Atleast I watched your videos.

Buy a thesaurus, wait, don't even buy one. They are free on the internet.

You posted it on a forum where many people post freely, and you asked what we thought.

And I was thinking of other people when I wrote that, I wanted to make sure nobody else wastes 9 minutes watching those movies that they will never get back.

Im sure there are people that like this kind of thing, but there are also people who like snuff videos. It doesn't make them good.

Lastly, just because you named it after a song doesn't mean it makes sense or is defendable. The song has an equally stupid name.

How is it stupid? And i didn't name it after a song i wrote the name of the song that played in it.... since it was the theme genius...

Thinking of the other people... Did you keep that in mind when you said "We dont care about your poetry, we dont care about your fanfiction" And the we in that sentence represents you since there are plenty of people in forums who enjoy poetry, videos, fanfiction, and plenty of other things along those lines.

If this could fit in my signature it would have been there already. Purely epic in hilarity.

If you want some video tips, here are a few. First, this is a slide show. I haven't seen one of these since I tried to play Star Trek: Legacy on a Radeon 9600, and even then that wasn't an intentional slideshow. If you have a computer than can run Garry's Mod, you have a computer that can run a video editing program. If you ever want to move your video making skills past the "Microsoft Powerpoint" level, you're going to have to add movement.

Another important component of a video is sound. Any sound, at all, aside from one song you happen to like. That's great that there's music you enjoy, but it doesn't add anything just to slap some band's work on top of some video (or in this case slideshow) that you made. The only time this ever works is for music videos and I think we're all of a level of intelligence here to realize why that's the case.

Now that we've covered adding in movement and sound, we'll want to work on the editing. Seeing as you spent upwards of 11 hours getting these things done, I'm assuming there's a point to them. Any point. At all. SOMEWHERE. The problem is that we can't see the point. We don't know. We don't get it, we don't care, we're not going to put them up on a big screen in a classroom to get everyone to analyze them. It's just a bunch of boring pictures with a song you like playing in the background. If you want to tell a story, you have to work at it. Chronology, characterization, a plot, basically anything except a bunch of alleyways, zombies, and dead or dying soldiers. That's not a story. That's a cliche. Not even a very entertaining one, either, when there's not any MOTION.

Basically we need a reason to want to watch these things. When's the last time you voluntarily watched a poorly-executed slideshow consisting of images that attempt to mimic something we've all seen done before, only with far lower production values, paired with a song that someone probably chose just because they like it? What, the last one you watched was yours? How come? Because nobody wants to watch crap like this. It doesn't help that you try to defend it so virulently against people who are just telling the truth, and it definitely doesn't help that due to a variety of factors (writing skills, the ability to grasp someone else's argument, basic spelling and grammar) your defense is less coherent than the videos themselves.

I'm a one man team, time is very limited, my resources are very limited, and i do this for fun, not for seriousness, some of the video's people like, sometimes they don't like them. And for the 11 hours thing, that was all done in getting the posings done and getting the video footage, the actual putting together adds about another 3 or 4 hours on total.

And i don't jsut choose songs that i like, i choose songs that i like ANd fit the theme. And since i like all types of music ( Except rap because it's just mindless rhyming about crap that doesn't matter with a random beat) and can tell whether music is good or not and i like GOOD music i'm usualy fine in the sound department. Motion is what i'm very limited on because the only footage capturing program i have is Fraps, the free version too.

And i'm not telling a story for a large motion picture. Art can tell stories without plot, characterization, and chronology. I'm not exactly saying my video's are art but i'm using it as a point, you view everything as a movie like the matrix or saving private ryan, i'm not trying to make a movie, im trying to express a feeling of sadness, corruption and chaos through an apocalyptic event such as this. You dwell too much on the fact that a video must be... what's the word i'm looking for... linear...

If I thought the chief requirement of a video was that it be drawn out, I'd have tried to hug you over the Internet by now.

Your idea of a video/movie is for there to be a plot, chronology and abunch of other useless junk which doesn't make art, art. This was not to entertain, this was not to be explosive action like the movies which you watch on TV or in the theaters. I've sent these videos to and told about 20 of my friends to tell me how they honestly thought and fealt about all of them, all of them atleast liked 1 of them and some even liked all of them. I've even showed these video's on some other forums and people i didn't even know and some that even hated me said that some of them were pretty good. I'm just going to keep on doing what i'm doing, improving on it, and find constructive comments that i find USEFUL to improve my future projects i work on.

Your either very bad at noticing the difference between these 2 different categories, or your just use'd to that categorie.

Here's my take. You've made a few videos, but they lack cohesive vision and you lack an understanding of emotional manipulation. Before just trying to take another wild stab, read up on the various topics mentioned in this thread. See what other people have tried, what worked and what didn't. Then you'll have a better idea of what needs to be done, regardless of whether this is a story or not.

If you're just going to make terrible slideshow "art" for the sake of it with no point whatsoever. Don't bother at all.

They're not to entertain? What are they for? To bore? You, sir, have accomplished your objective with aplomb.

Does art entertain? no, you feel it, the emotion and hardwork put into it. do you feel movies? no, unless you count when it forces it upon you. Art has a different feeling for everyone, you clearly have no idea of what it means or art for that matter so i'll just leave it at that.

I mean, you seem like a nice person, but what i made is much different than a movie and i intended it to be like how i made it.
