Hitmen.

I've always had a personal infatuation with hitmen, be it book, movie, game, or real-life interview and such. But my video-game experience with them is lacking. The Hitman series, obviously, comes to mind but I've never found it that great. I may beat Hitman 2 or something one day, but I want something more robust, more interesting, maybe with a real plot or a good character.

Discuss, give opinions, even tell me good books or movies. I just want hitmen. I'm in the mood. A great game is what I really want though. Hold me over 'til Assassin's Creed...

    hmm... you're talking about, like, stealth-type games where you have to work unseen and kill select targets? hard to think of any offhand... my personal favorite stealth series is the Tenchu series, but that's ninjas, not hitmen =p but I love the fact that you don't get punished for killing people, and the different stealth kill animations are awesome. it's not as hard to stay hidden as it is in most stealth games, so I don't get bored waiting for every single guard to be in the exact right position before I move, like in Thief and Hitman, etc. you get lots of neat ninja toys to distract and confuse the enemy... talking about it is making me want to whip it out again...

    Tenchu is pretty good, but they didn't age too well, I find the control feels very primitive now. Not the PSX ones at least. You're thinking on the right track though!

    Mafia! Mafia Mafia Mafia. They're even working on Mafia 2 which looks awesome. My friend also like The Godfather game, and it got pretty good reviews, so you might want to check that out. Sam Fisher (Splinter Cell) certainly does some hits on the side for the US Government (i.e. "hey Sam, since you're here, might as well cap that suckah") Grand Theft Auto definitely brings the hits.

    Thief 3 is kinda hitman like... but not much, same with Splinter Cell. Maybe some Metal Gear Solid would do the trick.

    Nikita is a good idea. I'm amazed how hard it is to find games about hitmen and stuff. What I would -really- love is one with as much style as Metal Gear Solid, but with somewhat of an action bend (without being a shooter of course). Assassin's Creed will be perfect for that, but it won't have custom missions. Cry.

    I don't believe any Hitman game will allow for custom missions or mods. There's always a chance though.

    I figured Thief 1 and 2 set enough example for any game to allow custom missions. Apparently not. 10 years of sustained play isn't enough. Saw Leon a few times. Great flick. Natalie Portman was loli.

    I think I'm one of the few people who never liked the Metal Gear games. I thought they were OK, but tedious overall. and whose idea was it to make a game series about giant robots that you never actually pilot -_-

    I never played the full game either but I don't think you do many "hits." Or any, really. You just go around killing orcs and stuff.

    You can sorta play Thief 3 in a hitman style way... there are a few missions that involve breaking into something (obviously) but that also have an important person or something that you could kill, I guess. There're bound to be mods for it. I definitely recall seeing mods for at least one of the Thief games in the back of an issue of PC Gamer.

    It sounds like you've never played Hitman: Blood money. It's a large improvement from the others, it's got much smarter AI, much more of an interactive environment, much, much, much, more customization and is just all around a great game. I spent a total of 16 hours playnig it and loved every minute, even though it was hard as ba**s, it was fun disposing of bodies, take security tapes to leave no evidence of you, taking other peoples clothes to gain permission into other areas and loads of other interactiveness to tie in with it. If your infatuated with Hitmen than i really suggest you play Hitman: Blood money, by far the best in the series and the best spy game ever (maybe in a tie with splinter cell), BTW the ending is a little hard to figure out, but if you read a walkthrough im sure you'll get it.

    If you have played it... Well there really aren't that many assassin games out there, i guess i would recommend these games Duece Ex, Duece Ex: invisible war, Thief, Splinter Cell series, The godfather, TES: Oblivion (in the dark brotherhood faction you play the role of an assassin, or you could just use stealth to kill random people), and maybe knights of the old republic.
