<div class="IPBDescription">Stats, medals, and "NS friends" all in one place!</div>I would first like you to check out the example picture I am posting, gather your own ideas and thought, then read through my post and ask yourself the question at the end. It is lengthy I know [sorry bout that, but it has lots of ideas], however I think that if they can make this part of the game, we can incorporate many of the ideas alread posted here in the forums!
<img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2271/1616446867_1d7ebd4867_o.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
In the image you can see how many kills I have goten since playing NS 2. I even got 21 kills with electrified turrets, and twice Ihad to get out of the chair to smoke some fool! So you get the picture I hope-
I was recently in a game where I used my tag on the wall [it's a couple gorges with a bikini babe under a fake sun]. Anyways, a couple of guys said how funny my name is and I had a cool tag, while it does have a female in it, its "NS based" so I think that is why they didn't mind. The gamer name I have been going under since I started playing NS 1 a couple years ago has always been "Gorgiesgonewild."
Anyways, in every game I have played since I started NS, I stick with my NS "gamer" tag. Like some might stick to "Striker606," or "willknowmebytrailofdead." I see these two guys in NS often, but I use my name in every game, not just all the other HL based games I play online [DM, CTF, DOD]. Sometimes people ask me about it and I am able to tell them about the mod which is kinda cool, but I was wondering if there was some kind of way we could create a basic database ran website of all the gamers who play NS 2, where their names, maybe a simple icon of some sort [proposed for more then one other idea here in the forums], and stats would be kept. I know there are a couple servers where they track your play data. Kills, what weapon you use most, hit percentages, that sort of thing.
Is there some way that they could take the basic data at the end of a round and upload that to a master server which would then display it for everyone to see and compare? You wouldn't have to make it as comprehensive as the ones I have seen, but I would really like to see some more personalization for the players, as well as "props" for talented individuals! Some people are very good at being a commander, or going fade. Theres one player, he's like "Joker" or something, but when he goes fade, man it's over!
So with this stats site, I could plug in my name and see where I stand, even maybe some basic features that Steam has could be used such as tracking friends, comparing yourselves to others [check next to my name, then check next to "Striker 606" to compare us side by side. Wouldn't that be really easy to do?
Since it would be uploaded at the end of the match, bandwidth "lag" doesn't matter [it's not uploading in realtime while you play]. It wouldn't have to upload as much as those plugins do, maybe just total rounds shot, hits, headshot count, that sort of thing. Also, it could upload other simple data like that which was proposed by someone else in these forums, having to do with "who had the most kills in game, who took most damage, who healed the most, etc etc."
I would like to be able to tell someone "hey just check out my name on the NS player site." I think not only would it make the game more personal because I have my own avatar, page and player stats, but it could also be used as a simple yet effective way to do many of the already proposed things here in the forums.
Someone wanted to have avatars with medals for getting most kills in a match. So, on the new "player stats page" their medals would be auto assigned by the website based on their stats. For every match game won they would recieve something like points towards stars, and medals based on a simple kill count system. "Johnny5" gets over 250 kills with the Shotgun, so he gets a "Shotgun Silver medal." When he gets over 500, the medal is replaced by a gold "Shotgun medal."
You could say do something special for the commanders since it is the hardest marine role to master in my opinion, and give an aditional stats section. Say "yoda" often went comm, his stats would be displayed like this under the "Commanders" section:
NS_Bast Total map play time 1023.1 Min. Best time 3.4 Min. Longest time 14.2 Min.
NS_Eon Total map play time 491.1 Min. Best time 6.7 Min. Longest time 12.9 Min.
NS_Siege4B2S Total map play time 129.4 Min. Best time 8.7 Min. Longest time 9.6 Min.
And I don't know how hard it would be, but maybe each map would have a link where he can click and it brings up the basic stats for <b>that</b> map [for all the stuff he built and gave out], such as this:
<!--coloro:#0000FF--><span style="color:#0000FF"><!--/coloro--><b>NS_Bast</b><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc-->

So, you get the picture? Basic stats for the commander. And while the stats would obviously be different for the marines, and for the ailens, every player would have their own "user page" [which is basically their name, icon, maybe they are allowed 200 words of text and/or a simple link, and are allowed to link to anyone else who says "OK" to the link request at the bottom]. It allows a more cohesive community, but also allow people with similar roles to compare, discuss and basically improve their game! Who sieges what mape, who usually finishes certain maps earlier, who does what!?!?
All of the commanders in the NS community could see see who the "top commander" is overall, who gets the most wins on certain maps, or the fastest wins uses more HGMs on a certain levels, whatever. Also, every role gets medals or special recognition for that role played. The best 25 commanders in NS would say get silver medals [Silver CC icon], and the best 5 would get a gold icon! These could go off to one side of the users page, for example on the left side of the example picture, where the boarder is located.
I know it sounds like alot of work. But wouldn't this mostly be possible at the end of every round, by simply uploading the stats to a server where it's displayed? I don't see how displaying stats would be that difficult, there is also already an addon which does this...
The example I provided is just that, an example. The layout and pictures chosen were just copy and paste, but my point is, I think this is a great idea and am wondering what you guys think, as well as what the developers think. *cough* *cough* Is this something you guys are already doing, or is this something that someone would have to make afterwards somehow, but it would be serverside choice only? Good idea? Bad? I should drink less Mt Dew? hehe

Well, that's the thing. There is already a site that has this-
avatars and constant names (or a link/reference to someone's main alias/account) are good however.

Problem is, most of the NS clans suck. They either have some really off the wall "rules" which are obviously created at the whim of the 15yo "Grand Master," or they don't really offer anything> I mean, what does belonging in any clan REALLY give you?
Also, Corpseman thanks for the shout-out, even though it was probably unintended <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
Those allow players goals to work towards in games and anything that increases temwork and cooperation as a good is always a good thing. I think in that way such stats help because it gives players something in the end they can say they did and point to. Takes a lot of work and tweaking but it all depends on how you approach it I believe and it can be very useful if done correctly. I do hope to see something in NS2.
Not only would thopse numbers tell on him, but the kill% and hit % tell people who are recruiting everything they want to know. Guy X never welds, they have no idea that he wont weld because they don't play with him all the time. However, people select what they do in games anyways. Some player only want to use GLs [even though only a few of us understand how to use them], and some wont weld. But the numbers tell you everything you want to know. If that's really what a clan is interested in...
Player #1 plays NS2 for only 3 months. In that time he plays only 3-4 days a week. Every day I think I get about 8 or so matches in. So it's a fair statement to say that even only after a few months one person can get up to playing almost 400 or so matches. So now he has played 400 games in only 3 months, and yet his vent weld count is 0. Doesn't that pretty much tell you he's not a team player? Same as buildings built. While most everyone builds the IP and the ammo station at the start we also build probably on average 1-3 buildings during each game. Rts, base structures, PGs... But player #1 still only has like 14 buildings after 3 months of playing. So while he may be trying to "######" certain stats, those very stats tell everyone else that he is a coward, or just not a team player. You could also have an overall player stat, which factors in everything. SO while his kill count is maybe higher then most, since his build, weld, and waypoint following stats are below average he is now way way down on the ladder!
