I Concur.
Ah, I understand where you are coming from in your rebuttal re: Comms there Moomin. I agree with your offline tutorial for the Comms. Even if its a simple training simulation like the one in the original Half Life would be great for the 'noobs'. Perhaps tooltips ala World of Warcraft (or any game or website really) as you mouse-over icons.
I'd love to see some easter eggs like the secret rave rooms also.. and other interesting Ready Rooms.
I also put out the question of how many maps people expect? Obviously more maps over time, but in the initial purchase of NS2, I know I'd like at least 8 maps. I'd honestly be disappointed with less.. Classic remakes as well as new ones. While I also personally enjoyed combat equally as much as "NS" (maybe NS more <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />), if this is include, 6 maps is fine. Though, perhaps it would be best to launch Vanilla NS first, patch it for combat later? or both at once = 2 games essentially, which in turn more value for money..
Hey N_3, <3 !
I say Leave MT (motion tracking) alone, but perhaps change how it works: Say if the alien isn't moving or moving fast (crouch + walk) it shouldn't show up at all, esp. if cloaked... I also like that you could see cloaked aliens if you looked closely (slight pixel colour changes)
Another Idea I had was perhaps Hives themselves could be dynamic, instead of a single hanging ball-sack style, perhaps there could be a 'growth in the corner' sort of hive or a 'spider nest' corner type of hive? ...and covered all in DynInf. hmm..
I'd me looking for at least 4 Classic maps on release (including some but not all remakes, if any). If there are no other modes then I'd want 6, if there are other modes then 2 of each mode.
Haha about TF2 commentary on 'commander' I'm immediately compare this comment to NS and the conclusion make me laugh <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
I'd like your comment about commander system down in tf2 "commander has been ejected" <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
just note about the bgm, can be possible to keep the same volume as you have set after tf2 comment sequence.
That's about some pple here who haven't a fluent English skill and have some difficulties to understood what you said when the volume of music is a bit to much.
humorous in the game shouldn't be avoided As like you should have a good surprise after credits, portal has good one dark messiah credits are crazy <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/confused-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="???" border="0" alt="confused-fix.gif" />
about game learning, on Europe, we have made some night on "how to play" with some skilled player who teach new player on a dedicated server with teamspeak. That's make good result and fun game, like we have done in first day of NS1 when we stop to play to say "welcome" to a new player and help him to learn how to play.
If you check Hidden Source, they have done a quick tutorial on a map that's can be usefull to train and learn new player, I remember First verison of Counter Strike and my half life one had tutorial like this one.
If I have the time, i'll try to make a note about this podcast in French <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Listening to the commander mode critique from TF2's development team made me post this.
Keep commander mode in, but in pubs, you need a way to circumvent a bad commander (or more often, a <i>lack</i> of a commander) and similarly, you need a way to allow one good player to carry your team if many of your players won't follow orders.
If literally no one will listen to your orders, your team is terrible and will lose no matter what you do from any angle. Ignore that possibility when playtesting.

Oh yeah, I meant to say something about this. It wasn't so much the volume of the music that was the problem, but that it was a bit too...active? If the music's too fast and has lots of stabs, crescendos etc. it's kinda distracting and conflicts with the dialog.

It's integral to keep the Commander feature *IN* (its not really a mode) or it wouldn't be NS. If you've also played (Vanilla) NS, in later patches they included a way to boot the commander; Another member had eluded to this fact by even quoting what happens after a commander eject vote occurs ("commander has been ejected").
I don't belive I post their link, my teamates will kill me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

So 6 maps minimum either way.
