<div class="IPBDescription">any satisfied/dissatisfied customers?</div>so I just sucked it up and got a 360 elite since GH3 is about to come out, and rock band, and mass effect and assassin's creed and... and... etc. I have no games for it (well, I got viva pinata for $20). there are a LOT of good games for it, most of which haven't dropped in price, even the ones that came out over a year ago. If I bought all the games I could think of wanting to play, it would probably cost me at least as much as the system. I don't have that kind of dough, and usually I just play a game through once anyway, so I don't really need to own every one for $50-$60...

long story short, any satisfied gamefly customers? might be annoying to have to wait for games, and to return games and have an urge to play them later, but it seems like the only way someone coming into the xbox scene this late could possibly catch up on all the titles without spending a fortune. Sucks that it's more expensive than netflix, but then again, I guess games are more expensive than flix.

on a side note, my brand new 'elite' has a loose AV cable <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> I have to wedge it a certain way or the display flickers or goes out. I decided it wasn't a big enough problem to return the thing or raise a stink over, but it still kinda sucks. Also, I was as surprised the wireless xbox controllers used AA batteries as I was about the Wiimotes. I figured we'd have ditched batteries in, like, the 90's. but I guess rechargable controller docks with lithium ion battery packs would up the price on these systems by like $100. Glad I have plenty of rechargable batteries.

    I've heard alot of good things about Gamefly, but being from EU i can't use that service <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

As for AA batteries, you can buy lithium ion batteries for it, with chargers. ( <a href="http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360rechargebatterypackblack/default.htm" target="_blank">link</a> )

You could always rent games from the local video store (or even game store if they do that). It might be more expensive than Gamefly but it certainly beats buying everything.

you make a good point. Blockbuster might have more instant gratification... but if my memory serves, they have such a horrible selection. like, 1 row of shelves filled with Madden and Tiger Woods, 1 filled with only Halo, and maybe 1 copy of, like, Blue Dragon, hidden behind 3 other games in the Wii section instead of the 360 =p

    I haven't rented a game from Blockbuster in about 10 years <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

You know, you could fix your loose AV cable in like 5 minutes with a soldering iron. One of the legs of the plug probably isn't soldered correctly.

I don't have a soldering iron, and the parts of the cable that are loose appear to be plastic <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> and if it IS a piece of metal that's loose I don't think a soldering iron would fit in the little holes in the connector anyhow. guess I'll stick to jury rigging by wedging something against it so it don't move.

sorta derailing my own thread here, but I am unhappy with my xbox experience so far. I'm trying to set up a dang xbox live account. Last night, the account server was down for an hour or two and I couldn't. Today it's telling me my email and password are already linked to an xbox live account... which is strange considering I've never owned an xbox before. the next step would logically be to see what live account my current email address is linked to, right? sadly, this is not an option they give me. I can only create a new Windows Live ID to link it to. So I guess I have to go start a new email account to just use for this stupid Live signup even though I already use my current email address for my Zune, MSN, etc. l2ergonomics, M$.

edit: I'm trying to register online instead now. I heard this can deprive you of free gold trial membership. I hope not. Heh, after one of the signup screens I get an error message: Bad Request (Invalid Header Name). They're really on a roll.

I rented with gamefly for around six or seven months. Personally I believe they have an extensive library of titles that are well worth the amount you pay a month. The only real downside for me was the wait. If you set up to have two games out at once it's better cause you can play one, finish it, mail it in while you start to play the next. If you do not go with the two game out plan then you'll wind up waiting up to three weeks for your game to ship back and a new title to ship out.

Also, it's worth noting that I did not cancel my membership, they terminated it because games kept dissapearing in the mail. I think about four games never reached my address and one that I sent back never reached them. So they decided the cost of doing business with me wasn't worth it, refunded my money for the month and said goodbye. Recently my brother signed up with Netflix and he has never had to file a lost movie report or a lost in shipping report. Which either means the people at the post office are more likely to steal games that movies, or that they have made a drastic change since my days at Gamefly.

As for your problems with the XBOX, the AV cable in particular, bring it back. Every store I've ever been to will automatically replace broken items involved with such a major purchase. If they don't replace they would surely refund your money or swap your console for another of the same kind. It's not worth having to jerry-rig your cables on an elite? That's $600 right? Or was it $500? Either way you did not pay for second rate goods and should not have to suffer for a manufacturing defect.

I never had a problem signing up with XBOX live, but then again I bought a one of those subscription cards to do so. I felt iffy about giving a video game console my credit card number. If it says the account already exists, simply go to gmail.com or hotmail.com create an email and shazamm you have a new logon. I also advise you to get one of those $50 subscription cards to Xbox live all you hae to do is create an account with your new email and enter the code on the back of the card.

I'd agree with Perfection. The wait is the only bust- note, I also have Netflix, which is basically "On my list today, here tomorrow", while Gamefly is closer to 4 or 5 days- though I have gotten one in 2 days(though oddly, the other one it shipped with was shipped a day early, and arrived 4 days later...)

Definitely worth the money, and I don't think they are missing any games at all throughout the selection. BUT, it is kinda expensive. I do $24 a month for my 2 game plan.

Well, since any local video story will charge around $5 a night and $7-10 for a week the math proves which is more affordable ^.^ and their selection will always beat any video store. It's just too bad I never got to play Cubivore as it's one of the titles that got lost in the mail. Sigh.

I got my first game from gamefly... gears of war... and it was too scratched to play. thing was chipped around the edges. it probably saw 100 homes since the game came out last year... but anyway, they're not making a good first impression on me as a first time customer -_- the very first game they sent me didn't work and needs to be sent back...

at least it came fast though. I set up my queue on Friday, they shipped on Saturday, first (broken) game was here on Monday.

With services like that, it'll happen. Happened plenty of times with me and Netflix. Some of the discs I've received make me go, "How the ###### do you do this?"

Dead Rising just came and it works fine. Now it's time to complain about how I can't read 75% of the text in the game because I don't have an HDTV <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> I sure do have a lot of complaints =p

Sounds like an issue that was only mentioned in, say, every review of the game, plus a million forum posts. For someone trying to save money you're not doing a lot of research on what you need and don't need.

Dude, I had heard since the game (and the 360) came out that some games were hard to read on SDTVs. I didn't realize they were so hard to read they were borderline unplayable. If you 'need' an HDTV to use the 360, why doesn't it say so on the box? or on the games? why does it come with SDTV hookups and default to them?

I may end up plunging myself into debt and throwing an HDTV on the ole' credit card <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Dead Rising is actually the only game that's basically unplayable on an SDTV which is why basically every single review of the game mentioned that flaw. I don't even own a 360, or read 360 game reviews, and I knew about it.
  • DiscoZombieDiscoZombie Join Date: 2003-08-05 Member: 18951Members
yeah, I knew about it in regards to dead rising too, but I also heard that it was an awesome game and certainly worth trying out via rental anyway. but every game I've tried so far has been pretty hard to read - I keep ending up sitting right in front of the TV in the dark like the little girl from Poltergeist.

Seriously, some people should not be allowed to handle Optical media.

The really crappy part is when you are trying to watch a series and you get 2 discs, but the first one is busted.

The upside is that if you complain to netflix they will often give you a bonus movie (as in, they up your subscription by 1 movie untill you return it)
  • PerfectionsFlawPerfectionsFlaw Join Date: 2003-02-14 Member: 13555Members
I've never been sent a crappy disc before and Thansal is right, some people should be prohibited from being able to use, borrow, touch or even look at compact disc without supervision. This is why every time I go to the video store I pop open the case to check for scratches and smudges. If they're the kind of movie store that keeps the videos behind the counter, I ask to inspect the merchandise before rental. If it's flawed I tell them so and explain to them the proper procedure for cleaning the afformentioned media.

Me: "NO! You're sposed to wipe it off from the center outward, not circularly! You bloody moron!"

    Clerk: ".................."

    Yup!

Part of the reason I gave up on Netflix tbh.

Either people don't know how to handle optical media, or the post office likes destroying my movies (but not my mum's, who I shared the account with, just mine).

My problem, I think, was that I was renting a good amount of anime. Now that your worst stereo type about kids that watch naruto and apply that to DVDs.

I've been oddly lucky with both thus far. No scratches and other than Gamefly delays, just fine. Only once, a DVD from Netflix got lost- on the way back.
