some Alien and Marine Ideas

Aliens:

- The Aliens have a new Chamber
This Chamber is simple, its slings a slimy substance to the marines.
So the marines get on the hud a decal with green slime (<a href="http://i24.tinypic.com/f27iax.jpg" target="_blank">example Image</a>)
This slime holds 5 seconds, so the marines can<b>'t</b> see very good.

- The Chamber weapon for alien
Why not the gorges Spit weapon get this slimy effect like the chamber?
The diffrent is just, the effect is just 2 seconds and not the whole hud, the hud get more and more full of the slime.

- The defence chamber get new effects
So if they heal, around the defence chamber comes a cloud (like the lerk defence gas, but its just heal teammates)
And if this idea is good, maybe you can add very low damage to marines if they walk through the cloud?

Marines:
Im sure this idea is not new.
The Commander can buy mx. of 2 Cameras.
So its like the turrets of NS1, the commander can build 2 of this cameras and get 2 tiny (get all 5 frames = 1 picture) displays on his screen.
He can switch the screens on and off (<a href="http://i20.tinypic.com/14j6lhx.jpg" target="_blank">screenshot</a>)

The Commander can research laser pointer and flashlight.
This allow all marines to put a flashlight and/or laserpointer to the weapons.

    I don't think that the aliens should rely on chambers as their means of defense. Their inherit ability to move quickly across the map already (in my mind) makes the use of OCs questionable. Really, the OCs are either a deterant for lone marines or for early warning systems upon being attacked.

    However! The green slime in the face idea I do like. When a spit registers as a head shot the green muck covers part of the screen for a period of time.

    <i>Defense Chamber Abilities</i>
    In my opinion, I wouldn't like to see gas representing (regardless of colour) the healing effect. Also, introducing an offensive weapon to the DC may start to throw some chamber balance off. If anything, you'd want to see the DC release an umbra type of effect, but even that I don't really like the sound of because the chambers aren't suppose to replace the abilities of the aliens. Though one could argue that the gorge's heal spray is equivalent to the DCs healing effect.

    <i>Commander Cameras</i>
    I'm on the fence about this one. Sure, it would give the commander easier watch over the battlefield, but isn't that part of the challenge in being a commander? Some have even suggested the marines have their own cameras and the commander can view any one, or even the marines can view each other. I think that would add a lot of atmosphere to the game making you feel more like a tight nit squad, but at what expense to the engine (I don't know). The GUI for the commander would also (and seems to be planned) modified so that the camera screen doesn't inhibit even more of the commanders views... or that would be the (balancing) drawback.

    Sweet! Love the idea. Not sure about how the mechanics would work, but the face slime effect and having it last 5 seconds is perfect. It makes it hard to shoot anything that isn't in you rface chompin on you anyways, but also when the ailens use it to run away or hide, you can't see ehre they go. Perfect!

    Cameras have already been discussed somewhere, and I like the idea, but...

    On the other hand, I'm not really fond of these ideas except for the slime thing, though I'm still on the fence with that one.

    The cameras on commander HUD is a cool idea , but how the hell would you code that ? . I know you can spawn cameras in the game with scripts , point_camera etc. But im not sure how you would link that as a feed onto the hud....

    For programmers is all possible.
    There is another idea.
    The commander gets a real Commanderchair with :
    * monitor/gameoverview like in ns1 com view (press on button example mousewheel will zoom into that screen)
    * red button for exit
    * 2 monitors can activate if press example the mousewheel -> zoom out -> monitor activate -> press mousewheel -> zoom in overview monitor with new monitor.
    I don't know what the UCs team have planed but i think a real com chair would be great, if you had an 5.1 soundsystem you hear the aliens hit your comchair or someone chuckle ;-)

    Anyway just to prove i'm not a troll i'm actually going to add my opinion to the original post :o!

    I think that its a really good idea to have non player defenses do this like, goo in the view, stun, slow, small damage, umbra etc, rather than actually kill, especially for the alien team. Why? well static defenses are needed for the game to work, but in an online game its not that much fun trying to kill static defense, its much more fun going agaisnt a real player. So having defenses to deter people from going in a certain direction, or severly cripple them or just plain buy the other team time, it lets the alien team get to that location and do the killing themselves.
    Sure gorges might not get a few res points here and there for OC kills but its easy enough to create a system where if their goo chamber damanged a marine that then got killed by a skulk near the goo chamber, then the gorge gets some res.

    Sounds pointless, and would be a nerf to DCs (since they could no longer heal through walls).

    When i first read this post, I mistakenly thought that DCs were gaining umbra. I thought THAT idea had so much potential that i wrote a full proposal about it, right <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=103125" target="_blank"><u>here</u></a>. Check it out, it seems like it would actually be a very good boost for the DC (when balanced properly).


    ---Slime Effect.
    Could be a lot of fun.

    For the gorges, you'd have to be very careful balancing it. Perhaps each landed spit adds on 30% opacity, up to max 90% (so only 10% visible through the spit, but *STILL VISIBLE*), where each spit begins diminishes first at 3 seconds after impact, for a full two seconds. This would be a cool effect, and would boost gorgies a little without <i>really</i> affecting their use or power (and why not make the gorges slightly more fun? they deserve it).

    For the Chambers... It would perhaps be a bit of a waste to create an entirely new chamber for this. If so, you would want them to be small, fairly unnoticeable, cheap, but with enough HP so marines could actually consider the ammo and clip loss vs the benefit. The chambers would also not be as good as gorge spit, though likely more accurate (like OCs compared to spit damage).

The concept for the AC is a 30-res chamber that gives small ability boosts to all aliens when its built (only requiring one, as well), such as higher jump, lerk perching, gorge slow wall-walking, skulk weapon-pulling, etc. Check it out. The Slimey OC would make a great addition to that.
