Has been suggested before and the thread exploded as a result <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> Also where do you want these vehicles to drive inside the narrow corridors of spacestations?

We don't know that all NS2 stages are going to be indoors with narrow hallways...we don't even know if any of them will be that way.

Ehm, the devs have said it before. Introducing a fully outdoor environment with long distances between enemies will cause significant problems for the aliens. From that I conclude that NS2 will not have large outdoor expanses. Their idea of this game has always been to give it a claustrophobic feel as a large part of the atmosphere in this game.

    Or unless a dev comes in here and tells me how wrong I am <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Ye there would be a problem with aliens because marines have guns while aliens use close combat and hit 'n' run.

    We got Halo already <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

Why would the marines go to a planet and fight off kharaa who arnt upsetting anyone? the marines goto space stations to get rid of them, if htey are just running around in the wild, then where's the problem? no need to fight <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

besides I would just nuke the hell out of em from orbit instead of wasting valuable resources and manpower <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

vehicles aren't going to happen in ns2 and i'm glad. The core ns gameplay is strong enough as it is, it doesnt need vechiles to be fun, and not to mention all of the headaches involved in getting vehicles to fit (gamplay wise) and all of the bugs and extra work that comes with that.

If anything was to be drastically changed perhaps like a space suit or something (or HA) that can be used to walk on the outside of a hull, that would be cool. but i guess thats not really a vehicle lol

*shudder* at the thought of vehicles being implemented. Although I still reckon manable turrents wud be ok.

well, isn't there the slight posibility that the aliens come to "earth" or wherever the marines are home from (haven't really looked into this)? I think it could become ever more frightening if you can relate to something closer to you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

In one of the podcasts I actually listened to, they alluded to no outdoor environments because they want to do them right. So it sounds, if there would ever be an NS3, they would revisit the idea.

vehicles are a bit of a 'it wud be cool if' idea. I do think vehicles are cool, but i dont think they would have much perpose in the game play. we already have jps. Id like to see more trains on maps but this is a mapper issue. I like schkorpios idea above about space suits because is allows players to enter a slightly different environment, although if they do space suits i recon theyd combine them with HA, as HA is already immune to spores, i guess it wud be able to handle low pressure and no oxygen. I spose a small quad bike with a hmg mounted on it for going down corridors and mine shafts would be quite cool, but what purpose would it serve over a jp with a hmg?

True. Very true. I was thinking more along the lines of large, open areas inside the structures, and larger-scale stations, etc, but...It would kinda lose something, wouldn't it?

Well, I'm new to NS, but I think it would be cool for some quick transport vehicles...Don't bite me! Let me talk first...

Say your a marine in a station. You need to get to the other side of the station - How? A shuttle around to the back.

Now say you're an alien and you find marines shuttling back and forth outside the station quite annoying. And say that you decide to hide in said shuttle and wait until a marine got behind the controls of one to leap out and rip them to shreds?!/!?!?!....

    Sorry.

But yea, more ideas like walking out onto stations/ships' hulls in certain marine suits. Aliens could just walk out there as themselves - This would be an early advantage to them, but it would be an open enviroment and easy to get shot later in the game.

I think ur shuttle idea sounds quite cool, but i guess it would be more of a mappers than game design question. iv ery much doubt that a 3d flight engine will be programed in to the game as this would take an insane amount of extra development time.

but a shuttle could run on automatic pilot, and work the same way as trains do in the current ns and presumably ns2 on source engine. As in the shuttle would follow on distict route and then dock. The rines would be sealed in the shuttle for some time and open to hidden skulk attack. The main prolem with this is the mapper would have to make his spacestation look good from the out side so the view from the shuttle didnt look silly, unless of course the shuttle had no windows. tho that wud be the same with space suits and space walking.
