What about that guy that can't make up his mind where he's going and won't just sit still for 5 seconds so I can pass him? Heck, the guy that stops before he goes around every corner blocking you even though thanks to mt/sof/justmoreexperience you know it's clear. It's like ahh come on, either keep going or get the hell out of my way. (Side note: I tend to be very suicidal with my tactics. Ha!)

And why is team blocking so important for an ambush? This sounds like such a silly aspect of a tactic to rely on and I mean really, if the team is so grouped up that team blocking is helping you get kills, well, I suspect you'd get those kills <i>anyway</i> to say the least. When it really comes down to it, who's to say that knock back will work the same way in NS2? This could easily be one of those things, it might take some slightly different tactics and strategies (I mean, the game will anyway I'm sure), but I'd be willing to bet the benefits (less frustration towards teammates for one thing) would far outweigh the negatives.

I'd go so far as to say, that if it's possible, try a playtest with it on, see how it goes. I'd gladly lose the age ol'boosting to be able to see a pack of critters to fearlessly charge through at once and finish that damn marine alamo on Tanith. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> (Side note: Boosting and such is already more tricky in source I think isn't it?)

And knock back, that's a whole can of worms that I can just see causing problems... but alas that's beyond the scope my discussion here. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Really beyond your scope, if your two by two going walking itno a ambush, who are the guys in the back going to shoot in that tiet door way, there mates, sure that would go down well with FF, so yes, every ambusher relies on knock back and bunched up marines for a well deserved feast.

But sure dismiss it, I also did offer ways it would work but still keep these fundamentals in play.

As for the 5 second rule it makes sence if you both cant make up your mind you both deserve to bump heads, humm you could stop moveing for 5 seconds and let him through?

also in a way your droping the learnign curve sure its frustrating but its something both player involved need to learn, you neeed to elarn ot antisipate and of navigate terrain, I believe the millatary call it ground appresiation. and obiously the noob shouldnt be in the way but fo what ever reason he is.

If anything, reducing the learning curve could make the game more accessible to more players. I mean, you do still have a lot to be aware of in this game. You need to be thinking of what your teammates are still doing, (baiting? waiting to rush as a group? etc) this would just ease up the movements. More focus can be put into tactics to move around enemies instead of teammates, you know, the fun stuff. Spatial awareness still needs to be learned (or ground appreciation as you call it, I think they're the same thing?) and it's still important, but it might be good to ease up the learning curve for it. Good for the random pubber anyway.

(And to clarify, what I mean by "knock back" and the can of worms thing, was the whole "pushing teammates" out of the way instead, as that's another topic, probably with its own thread elsewhere. Sorry, knockback against enemies affecting strategies is a valid topic within the scope of this discussion since this change would affect it. Trivially if you ask me, but nonetheless.)

Having played TF2, I would say allowing team mates to slip by or slipping by my fellow team mate is so much more fun than yelling into a mic or typing in text for the to "Move, get out of the way, MOVE!"

Have you ever walked through a crowd before to enter a club? People "let" you slip by, they turn their shoulders and so do you but if you try to pull that with the bouncer, he won't turn his shoulders and increases the size of his stance.

With concern to position within a formation during CQB ... stop pointing your weapon at your team mates back! Holy, cover a different field of fire, if they want to run the risk of point, let them. If I run point, to let others slip by and have them help with putting fire down range, I duck. I don't see how this would change with slipping by either.

I am all for slipping by teammates, it is a huge improvement in such a subtle way. The enemy will continue to block my path, I am sure...

But yes if your running head long into a crowde at a pub with a nasty teeth welding alien chaseing you down, and they obiously dont see said alien imediantly let alone want to spill there drink they will let you break pyschis and pass strait through them. ###### no! they are going to let that alien eat the rest of your pants. It will give them time to get away with out spilling their drink. Or to at least bottle that Xenoform sucker on the back of its neck like area. PUB BRAWL... now no ones moving from point A to point B, we can try but your again likely to be yelling at some idiot at the top of your lungs over the loud music hes listening to. The bonus in the real world, and will hopefully be put into NS2 if your bigger and uglyer then he is say you have a HA suit YOU can PUNCH that little ###### out. Or at least push him a little. still a huge diffrance between walking into someone and nudgeing them, Or running through your team mates cycleing the weakest to the safest location for free, while full health targets block the way.

    Hmm... this theory needs testing.

Perhaps I should let a rabid pitbull loose in a bar one night.

    Fun AND research!

well its ridiculous that a marine blocks an onos or skulk blocks an onos but it isnt the other way.

How about just kicking skulks away as onos? ^^

so you just run backward as skulk if you try to block an onos.

i think a wonderfull idead would be if a gorge could web the ip and the onos so the onos could take the ip behind and run away ^^
    *just jokin*
