<div class="IPBDescription">and how is it?</div>So I just moved. Half my crap is still at the old apartment. I'm mooching wireless right now. which brings me to...
What ISPs do you guys use? I've been on comcast for a long time at the old place but I have a huge grudge against them. total monopoly with really shoddy service. Yet, I will still sign up for them here if they are the best going. I'm looking for high-speed internets at low, low prices. or at least a balance between speed and price, but I'm looking for something in the cable internet range. how fat is a decent fat pipe these days anyway? comcast apparently has 2 offerings - 6mbps and 16mbps and honestly, I doubt I need 16. even if you have that kind of download speed, no one has that kind of upload speed. I just want decent pings in my FPSes and reasonable download times on my files. of course not all providers are available everywhere, but I'm just looking for ideas on what to look into. thoughts? stories? cookies?

since I live in Australia. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
My ISP is OptusNet and have been fairly reliable if a little expensive, and give a decent speed for Australia since we are a internetically a backwards country.
There's probably better ISP's out there that I am too lazy to look up.

The service overall I'd rate at a 7 or 8- when its up it works wonderfully, torrents go at a good speed and connection speed to games doesn't seem hindered at all.
But, every morning between 1 and 3 AM they just shut off my internet for a undeterminable amount of time. Sometimes for a minute, but sometimes its been for 2 and a half hours.
I have Charter right now. I had a little bit of fun getting the router to work initially, but everything works fine. The most amazing thing is that I actually seem to get pretty close to the advertised download rate (only noticeable when I occasionally download a large file), which never seemed to be the case with AT&T.
@Home = internet/telephone
INHome = gas/electrics
TVHome = digital tv
The first months (2 of them) they utterly sucked with loads of timeouts and disconnect issues. But after they completely fixed all the local issues with the wiring in the ground, with a huge nationwide project to replace them. They are very stable, heck haven't had any unanounced disconnects since then.
But heck, does it matter for non Dutchies what @Home does? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Whatever you do, do NOT go with DSL, it totally blows performance wise.
I like 'em, they don't cap torrent speeds and they've got a backbone going through the area, so it's pretty speedy.
They've treated me okay for a giant corporation. Translation: I don't bother them, they don't bother me.
One good thing is they actually put numbers on their service and have since day 1(Unlike Comcast which made me very angry several times and who is now engaging in torrent packet dropping). I have the lower tier internet plan because I don't download/upload like a fiend(although moderately) and my ping times are good. I've never had trouble finding sub 50 ping servers in online games I feel like playing.
Edit: My gf lives in NJ and she has Cablevision. Says she hasn't had any problems.
