<div class="IPBDescription">Better, worse, or more of the same</div>I watched the Republican debate today, I'm wondering what people think about it.

I loved question 19: "On the death penalty, what would jesus do?" I don't think anyone was able to squirrel their way out of it, and that's not something that would normally be asked.

Still going through it, just had to comment: I saw the question to Paul about whether he'd run as an Independent or not, and holy ###### did he get up on that.

Edit: Hmm. Overall, I'd say this:

Mitt Romney has to be the worst offender of not saying anything in 5 minutes on that stage, by far. Where Guiliani obviously twists a lot of the things he was saying, Mitt would effectively say nothing.

Fred Thompson did a really good job, and I was surprised at how well informed he was. I don't agree with all of his views, but he did a good job. If I was gonna choose someone other than my favorite that "won" the debate, I'd say he had.

Guiliani: Twists a lot of things, and seemed to never be 100% sure of what he was saying anyway- it felt like he'd say something one moment and switch back the next, but rather eloquently making it sound different.

Tancredo: When is someone gonna call this ###### out and tell him he's racist? I mean, seriously. Its just getting ridiculous now.

Huckabee: A lot of word twisting, and a lot of things I just didn't like. His arguments were weak, and I hated how much he interrupted people. He's about as uneducated as it gets up there.

Paul: My favorite, but he did falter in a few places tonight- then again, he doesn't ever seem to do a good job at providing sound bites, and when *every* question had a 30 second time limit(and some were able to overstep that completely with no one pushing them to stop more than once), he was definitely not in his element. Otherwise, I think he did a good job, but without the time to be specific on how the other answers are wrong, he can't accomplish much.

Overall, I'd give this one to Thompson, purely 'cause he answered good, I liked a lot of his reasoning, and he had some of the shortest answers of the night. Good and concise. I don't agree with all his policies, but he won.

I dunno. Didn't have much time this morning, watched just a few short clips. On the republican side, nobody REALLY answered the "death penalty: what would Jesus do" question. Don't recall who it was, but when you first spend a minute or so deftly dodging the question completely, then, when pressed to answer the question say "Jesus was too smart to run for office," you fail. It'd be so much more honest to say "I do not wish to answer that question because I can't come up with any answer that is both truthful AND agrees with my own stance on the issue."
