Seriously, an epic game needs to come out. :\

I'm in long need of an epic game. An intensely epic game. A game that lasts you years, is multiplayer, and kicks a lot of ass. It needs to have guns - tight guns, not retarded ones. It needs to make your gut twist the same way it twists after one week of play. It needs to have motion blur, depth of field, a near-future setting and a gritty overtone that makes babies cry. A third person shooter game with a fluid cover system that's actually -useful-.

Where are you, my darling?

Yes, this post is useless.

if you're willing to drop the cover thing, or at least think asteroids/planets/stars/distance/huge ships are good enough as cover, this might be what you're looking for:

Gears of war is as close as you are going to get, unless you want to make a 3rd person HL2 mod. Which isn't a half bad idea in itself.

    Which would take you years.

Yeah. I still gotta say, Gears' cover system is the one implementation of it that I actually like- Vegas was close, but no where near fluid enough.

And ######, I still cringe every time I shotgun vaporize someone. Ugh.

TF2 seems to fill all of those except sci-fi and third person with arbitrary cover mechanics.

Tabula Rasa seems to fit every one of those stipulations, though I don't really like it. near future, gritty, third person shooter (or at least RPG in shooter's clothing), multiplayer, cover system, interesting guns... and honestly, MMO's are the only games that can last you years, unless you're the type who has been playing CS since it came out and still has a ton of fun with it. There are games I pick up and play through again every year or two, but no game has actually lasted me years besides WoW.

    I agree,
    I'm currently playing Tabula Rasa, but I quite enjoy and like the game. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Has anyone picked it up for the PC? Better, worse, the same?

I'm curious about this as well. It was among the first games I played for the 360 and didn't get too into it, possibly because of the keyb/mouse issue. I should get it for the PC and see if I suddenly think it's super awesome like everyone else already thinks.

I'm planning on buying it for the PC. It's the one game I was incredibly upset about not being able to have on my PS3, but MGS4 > GoW in my opinion, if I had to choose.

    Which I did.

    So I bought the PS3.

You do realise MGS4 is coming out for the 360 too now, right? The PS3 is losing exclusives fast.

From what I've read up about Gears PC on the GameFAQs Forums, it's bad. Once you get it to work you're in for some fun, but it's polluted with bugs. No cross platforming either.

    Source? I thought it's only a rumor.

Its not even a rumor anymore. They dismissed it a long time ago, soonest any version of MGS4 is coming out on the 360 is a year from launch, minimum.

Ok, i'm willing to admit I may have been completely wrong, but in my defence, I blame google.

Indeed. Which is a shame, because I have no intention of buying a PS3 for one game. Hideo must not like money.

Isn't the differences between the 360 and the PS3 that the 360 has better video processing power (better graphics card) while the PS3 has more...well, a better processor? And I know that their RAM is formatted differently.

Not to sound like a fanboy, but Hideo usually pushes the games to the graphical limitations, and I'm sure if he went with one or the other that he wouldn't do cross platform because pushing either the 360 or the PS3 to the "limit" isn't really the same in the route you take to do so. Maybe he was more interested in the processing power and differently formatted ram than the video capabilities because the world he is creating isn't that colorful to begin with? :\

It has more processors, which I believe are weaker on an individual basis. Since gaming is struggling to get any use out of even 4 processors, the 8 in the PS3 isn't doing it much good.
