Promotional Comic Strip

<div class="IPBDescription">I read that Order of the Stick was once to promote a game...</div><i>I read that Order of the Stick was once to promote a game...</i>

...and then it became the focus of a website because of its popularity and later spawned a board game and a graphic novels, along with other assorted merchandise.

The point of this little story is this:

I would like to challenge the Natural Selection 2 community to do the same for NS2, create a comic strip to promote the game that is so good it could one day earn you an income!

What say you, are you up to the challenge? Could you make a comic strip that promotes NS2?

And it doesn't even have look super professional to be successful either, the example I cited was done with Stick Figures, think about that <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />

<b><u>Please post all your NS2 comics here so we can spread them around the web like a virus to promote NS2!</b></u>

    Don't forget this one, <a href="http://www.readyroom.org/index.php?option=com_ponygallery&Itemid=32&func=viewcategory&catid=8" target="_blank"><!--coloro:#0000FF--><span style="color:#0000FF"><!--/coloro--><!--sizeo:5--><span style="font-size:18pt;line-height:100%"><!--/sizeo-->Nanites and Bacterium<!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--><!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></a>

    Also I once had the idea of starting a Ns related comic as well...

    Lemme see if I can find it... --> <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=77005" target="_blank">linkage</a>

    <img src="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/uploads//post-7-1091675236.gif" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    But it turned into a comic of my own, kind of (which I should get back to FFS <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> ). Well at first these characters were going into a none sci-fy setting then they went (in my mind, mind you) to the NS scene only to end up a lot later into my own scy-fy imagined world <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    <img src="http://www.existence-unknown.com/media/images/06-30-2007_full_cast.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />

    I have however been toying with the idea of going back to the NS comic idea, but I'm a slow as hell artist as it is and don't even have time for my own comic currently <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    BTW for a comic to be successfull, is seems it doesn't require a lot of drawingskills. The comic readers scene care more for good or funny writing and some kind of drawing skill so it doesn't get annoying to read. Heck even <a href="http://www.worldsworstwebcomic.com/" target="_blank">the worlds worst webcomic</a> has way more readers then mine (inactivity it is on my part <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> )

    It's kinda ironic, but eventually pretty much all comics start to look good, as the artist gets plenty of practice. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
    It's very true that art alone does not a good comic make; it's kinda hard to argue for XKCD's artistic value, outside of minimalism.

    I made that point, right? A stick figure comic became something, so can ANYTHING we make for Natural Selection. Many of those "MS Paint This Idea" things have had me busting a gut in laughter, and that is all you need for the simple strips. Once you start trying to make story arcs, then you come into something a bit tougher.

    What I plan on using when I find the spare time is a pencil, paper, and a scanner. Then I just need somewhere to store it ... is it possible to host the comics here at Unknown Worlds?

    I guess you could use the attatchment of files in this forum, but the again that webspace is very limited and you wouldn't have an easy way of reading the comic <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> There are also a lot of free webcomic hosting sites around: keenspace, smack jeeves and drunkduck come to mind

    I am reading Nanites and Bacterium, and I am just busting a gut...

    That's the thing, is there some way to get people aware of the already existing comics as well? This stuff is pure gold!

    Order of the Stick is win. If someone does an NS comic as good as OotS, I want to know about it. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    Isn't that ns_shiva? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> Nice work.
    I too want to see more of these so keep em coming! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    yeh it is shiva - core. and its based on a screen shot. i cant draw but i can trace. so you can used layered graphics packages like corel draw or potatoeshop to draw over screen shops, and it deosnt take too long. The difficult part is getting good screen shots that arnt to dark and show detail. atm im running round servers as comic camera taking screen shots with a program i donwloaded that auto saves em a jpgs. I may dig out hl model viewer loading some ns models and screen shot them. once i got enuth models, and backgrounds if i can find the time ill put em together in a strip. If any ones got some really good screen shots contact me and i may use them. the only problem is im limited by only being able to draw game content - i can alter small things like faces. Also technically it isnt entirly my work, if i do get round to creating a comic strip like this ill have to get permission off the original artitists for ns1 to use their work.

    That's really cool. I hope you keep up with this because if that only took you 15 minutes it came out really well.

    Using gmod could work when posing models, then tracing them and a screenshot of NS? Over at the mapping forum there are some Gmod screenshots of ns models, no idea if they have been released though...

    Order of the stick is awesome, simple drawing and a good storyline that we can relate to. Especially rpg players <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    We could also go for a chibi look or something like kyliegirl once did for some forum members avatars, it was kylie that created them wasn't it?

    An OOTS style would be quite easy to update (even at my drawing speed <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />)

    work on ns comic started.

    16 frames telling a sotry about an ns mission, shud be done with in a month if i find the time. Some OOTs infulence but only on humor. Ive tried to relate it to some discussions on these forums. Ps theres loads of extra models in the ns folder of like alternative rines , heavys, some gothic girl - used her face for a character, and starship troopers aliens?
