Anyone in the Wii search?

Just curious.
Here's the scoop:

I just got a job on the Sales Floor(Electronics) at my local Target so I'm planning on getting a Wii for Brawl; and we're always out of Wiis. And actually thinking about it, I've never seen a Wii in stock anywhere. I'm not exaggerating in the least, I've never seen the damn console on a store shelf.

I would believe Nintendo would up the production lines by now (Year+ later?), but I also believe they're being ######s. We also don't get Wii shipments for three weeks, to top it off, sometimes we're only sent about 4 Wiis... so what the f*ck Nintendo?

So I'm wondering if anyone else thinks Nintendo is holding back, and if they're also looking for the elusive console. I swear it's easier to find Big Foot that this thing.

I had some trouble finding one early this year. I went to best buy and EBstop once every 2 days for about 3 weeks before I found one. Actually, I didn't see one until I had kinda stopped looking... but I haven't paid close attention since then. It really is hard to believe they legitimately can't keep up with demand, especially since it's not as hi-tech as the ps3 and 360 and so you'd think it would be easier to manufacture. the sales numbers are good, but not so good that you'd think they couldn't make enough to have shelves stocked. I'm definitely suspicious it's a fake shortage. if not, nintendo needs to get with the program and open another manufacturing plant or something, because low stocks for an entire year is pretty ridiculous.

as for advice, I would suggest you either wait for a shipment to come in and snag one right away (you're allowed to do that right?), or check stores people wouldn't normally look for a wii in. I had a ton of trouble finding Rock Band until I looked in Sears and there were 2 just sitting there.

That's how I found my Wii last January. My brother and I were going to stores right as they opened every day for about 2 weeks before we found that, and one magical night it showed Target having 1 in stock, and when we got there in the morning it was sitting there surrounded by a halo of light. Good luck to everybody trying to find it this year, I feel your pain.

Millions of 'em in Australia. Hell, I had to sweep a few off the top of my car before I drove to work this morning. Bloody things are a menace.

This issue was acutally addressed by The Escapist. Apparently, Nintendo is actually working their asses off in production. The problem being that everyone wants a Wii compared to the 360 or PS3. So the are having trouble meeting supply and demand due to the overwhelming demands of consumers for the console.

There was plenty here in Cornwall, but now christmas has come around. Demand has gone high so most of the shops have whacked the price up from 180 pounds to 300 pounds...

Super Duper "How to acquire a Wii" tip:

Lurk in mod forums (they guys who mod their consoles with a chip in order to play imports etc) and hope that someone is willing to sell their already chipped wii.

My brother got his Wii that way (guy selling was a chip tester for that site) and it arrived in top condition with all original packing and receipts.

You cna also find plenty of new Wiis on ebay. Although most prices are jacked <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I used this site the first time around but I haven't had much luck looking for one for my parents this year. I'm more picky this time around though, I just want the console, not a bundle.

Actually, the Gamestop by my house has had Wiis nearly every time I go in there. Got mine just by walking in one day about 2 months ago.

2 months ago != a week before Christmas. Have you been there lately?

But it's not really the week before Christmas that has me wondering, in my city and adjacent ones I've never seen a Wii. I only ask now because I'm going to finally have the cash to buy one.

I tentatively asked my parents to keep their eyes out for a wii this christmas with the intent of buying it myself as it's quite an expensive thing to ask for (in a family of 6). I have however had multiple hints dropped that somehow I have one waiting for me. Every time I enquire about it they skirt the question with lots of "oh they are so hard to find!" and "maybe"s Which has always been a tell tale poker face as far as I'm concerned. Sooo.... While it's not a definate yes I'm hoping I'll have the pleasure of mario galaxy this christmas break.

You're right though - they are few and far between and in some cases, farther between than others as seems to be the case for you liku.
