Mappery

<div class="IPBDescription">Keeping Crates to a Minimum</div>Hello everyone,
I have been making levels for all sorts of mods (HL,NS,CS,CS:S,HL2DM,TFC,etc.) casually, just intended to be played among friends and I at LANs and such. Lately, I've rediscovered how much fun mapping can be, and have been observing how much progress is being made in NS2.

So, in my spare time, of which there is little, I decided to do alittle mappin'.

Here's a screenshot of just the very beginning of my work. If you think it looks familiar, that's probably because it's an interpretation of one of the pieces of concept art. Obviously it doesn't fit perfectly (it's always hard to make ends meet between making it look good and making it not slow your computer down to .00001 fps) mostly because there aren't any textures that I could find that would match the concept quite right (I'm hoping NS2TR will change all that)

Anyways, I'd always appreciate if anyone has some opinions as to how you'd like this particular hallway to look. Who knows, this even may grow into a release map!

Another map I made is for portal and it basically shows what "tubes" would be like if they used portal-style doors. I'm not going to release the map or any pictures because I'm pretty sure Flayra and Max will want to show people these things when they're good and ready (don't want to get people all hyped up for no reason). It is formed with an extra "tube-room" (please don't make that the official title) much like an old NS ready-room in a way, which is completely separate from the rest of the map. The tubes (portals) just lead to this room where it's all green and gooey and foggy and alieny. Performance-wise, it works very smoothly (although I have a higher-end machine... kinda curious how it would work on a low-end one) and it's quite fun. Mappers will appreciate this method of tubes because it gives them lots of freedom to do what they want with the "tube-room".

Alright this is a long post. Gorge! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/pudgy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::gorge::" border="0" alt="pudgy.gif" />

PS Keep it up, devs. If NS2 is all that I hope it is, I may even forgive you for nerfing the lerk back in NS, Flayra =)

    One thing I can't stand is how clean games always look. I would think a medical or research facility would have white, clean, well lit rooms, but maps for spaceship hallways and mining towns, terraforming colonies and places like "regular" bases would be just like real life! Trash, areas with items [a hallways would have say plants, decorations, or maybe monitors...], "stuff" scattered.

    By the look of this one screenshot we can't tell what the theme you are going for is, but since everything looks grey and... well grey, I am guessing it's some sort of place where cleanliness isn't a neccesity. So why does it look like you just mopped the floor? Not trying to be sarcastic, but I am, know what I mean? I would add maybe a few "items."

    Alright, thanks corpsman. I usually save more of the detailing which includes making stuff messy until later, but that's a good point. I was going to have this as a cleaner, less "pwned-by-aliens" area of the map, but I bet a few decals and physics props strewn around for people to toss about would make it seem a little more convincing.

    And I worked for a good hour mopping that floor.

    I think it would be great if you had access to the NS2TR alpha, since you clearly show a lot of interest in NS2 mapping. I would give you access instantly but unfortunately; it's not for me to decide. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

    The NS2TR alpha screenshots thread also seems to have died out...
