Being eaten alive?

<div class="IPBDescription">Is that an official feature? Can be skiped?</div>Hello, this may seem as somewhat random but... is being "eaten/digested" by onos is an official feature of the game? If it is, is there a way just to skip the process of digestion (as fun as it may seem... yeah, I am not itnerested in that) and just go into the watching your team mates? There is no way to escape that, so whats the point?

It disables that marine and it stops the onos being able to eat another - aswell as healing the onos.

Also its pretty awesome tbh - although i always have to restart ns after being digested because of a sound bug <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

Is there a way to skip the animation? I am not fond of looking down the digesting track of an alien creature of AIDS (They are bacteria of hive mind). And I am dead anyway... and the entire thing just ads insult to the injury.

you can replace the digestion sprite with a picture of a kitten or such.
just find a .spr file of a kitten, name it digesting.spr, and replace the old one.
    should work.

Open your console and type room_type 0 then hit enter. It changes the room type to add reverb, doesn't always change it back when you spawn.

Um... can I get a step-by-step instruction of where are .spr files are located and where to get such a neutral file?

May be wrong here but I am sure if the Onos is killed the Marine could be saved, so there is a purpose to remaining in the 'tract' so to speak.

I don't care if function stays, I just don't want to see the digestive track...

    It bothers you that much?

For me its a nice little time out, and its punishment. Because of the punishment, facing oni becomes that much scarier, especially as a heavy.

If I'm understanding correctly, what he's saying is that while he's being digested he would like to be able to view his teammates as if he were dead. His status in game could remain digesting, but he just wants to see something more interesting than the onos stomach.

So to be able to see his teammates (as though he were dead) and then go back to his normal view in the event he's saved. He also doesn't seem to care about being taken out of the game for the duration of the digestion, just the fact that he stares at an amazingly boring screen for so long.

I think it's rather boring, but I think the function of digestion should remain (take player out for a considerable time + ability to be saved + heal onos). The only issue here is staring at a redish screen for a rediculous amount of time.

As much as am idea of time-out seems fun, I myself just run away frim onis, just not be eaten. And added up with your fellow marines not caring about saving you... It's just annoying to see this... thing everytime I am to face oni... it just makes a game for marines (Can't play aliens to technical reasons) appear more like torture ones onis appear...

I don't understand how people can be grossed out by the digesting sprite, but certainly it's pretty boring to be sitting in there staring at nothing while you slowly die. It might be nice to allow the marine to spectate while he's in the onos' belly, even if it doesn't make sense, but personally I'm pretty indifferent about it.
  • gufugufu Join Date: 2007-11-16 Member: 62936Members
If it's a belly, where is the acid?
And I think I'd rather stab my eyes out rather than seeing that...

this is correct. you are not actually dead yet, so, you have some options.

for starters, always stick with a fireteam and perhaps they'll save you by killing the onos before you are fully digested.

there are a few things typical of the onos and devouring: one tactic is to devour the point man, no matter what, because it'll be easier to kill a marine detachment with one less gun firing at you.

a more refined/difficult maneuver is to charge in and then devour the most threatening marine, usually one with HA or JP carrying an HMG or GL. this can be more effective, so if you are up against a clearly seasoned player with a 5-to-1 K:D ratio and you know he loves the onos, expect something more like this.

also (as of the latest version) the onos must devour by aiming at the feet of the target marine. not all players realize this -- many are new to the game and did not read about each alien class too closely.

so there's a few obvious solutions. don't be the point man, let someone bolder run ahead of you. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> don't give away that you have JP by flying up in the air the second you see an onos, unless you know there's a ledge you can rip him apart from. don't hover in front of an inexperienced onos or jump as you run away from him if you hear him trying to devour you because he may not realize he's doing it wrong -- you might actually end up in his stomach by accident.

beyond that.. use these tips to generate your own strategy.

In soviet russia every onos has zen of sudoku in its stomach.

Hey, how bout in ns2 you embed a flash swf in the "being digested" screen, so we can download any game we want and play it while we wait.

And you can't die until you lose/time runs out.

I thought the idea of not being able to be alive in the stomach of an onos and telling your team mates on the other side of the map that youve just skipped to the double node and that's where you should be trying to get to to free you from the stomach was a gameplay thing. Not a "OMG THIS IS BORING".
