<div class="IPBDescription">Hello.</div> This is a thread about an <b>NS map</b> I'm starting that at this point I call ns_nuclear. The name is subject to change without notice. This map might also, of course, go the way of so many maps... onto the backburner, into the closet... or worse, into the Recycle Bin.

<b>This may be</b> my first crack at an NS map, but I consider myself to be a expert-- although certainly not veteran or professional-- mapper, IMHO. You wouldn't have heard about my awesome Counter-strike maps, a few of which were actually brought to some state of completion, mainly because everybody stopped caring about Counter-strike quite a while ago. But the few who saw those maps and were forced to give a crap had to admit they were darn good, at least. But enough about me and my old stuff.

<b>ns_nuclear</b> isn't spectacular and grandiose... any half-experienced mapper knows that 9/10 times, the biggest maps fall the hardest. Ns_nuclear's layout, as well as some of its architecture, is sketched on a paper that sits to my immediate left.

<b>The overall layout</b> is a simple diamond design, with Marine base at the bottom and Hive locations at the other 3 points. I'm trying to keep the overall layout simple like this, because I know that the subtle art of a perfectly balanced map is one of the hardest things to master, and this is my first try at a map for this mod.

<b>The scenario</b> is: A giant old fission reactor station, floating out in some asteroid field (I'm going to write a story to accompany the map later, of course). Anyways, its not a dazzlingly original concept, but it has NS written all over it.

This particular reactor system works by transferring energy through plasma, which is neater than just steam. The reactor is, however, water-cooled (water which can have a nice squishy Hive fulla Kharaa hanging over it). The station has a larger main reactor (which is Hive #1, and is only partially functioning), a secondary reactor to the North (Hive #2, a completely offline reactor) a sister reactor to the South (Just above Marine Start, which is the South Monitoring Room) and an Auxiliary section or something to the East which I am a little hazy on.

<b>EDIT</b>: One thing I've failed to mention is that I will be making some new textures for this map (I'm pretty good at making textures), but they'll mostly be based on the NS ones to keep with the 'NS motif' all the maps are supposed to have.

    Nobody is replying, which is understandable because there's no screenshots yet and thus no real reason to comment. However, some things I'd like input on is:

    -The concept. Good, bad, ugly?
    -The name. Got a better one? I'm not sure I like 'ns_nuclear'.
    -The textures. I'm making some of my own. Opinion?
    -Any other ideas/opinions are welcome, of course.

    Sounds good.. still ns_nuclear is a baaad name :O

    try to name it after the location its on (like a planet or something)

    just make up a name:

    ns_forah
    ns_zateo
    ns_bitaro

    ok bad names but still make somethin up

    Pfft. Surely the name is the about least important part of the map.
