Base relocation:
As a first action, build a commanders chair somewhere else. Either in an unoccupied hive location or in an area not easily accessed by Onos, like behind the welded door in ns_hera. It has lots of places for the smaller ones, but Onos will have a heck-of-a-time getting in there.
Trip Mines:
Nothing is very effective against an Ono, and this is no exception. However they can slow one down or damage him slightly. Placing them on the ground is best. It is possible for the Ono to avoid it, but slowing him down may be better than blowing him up. Also, place them around inportant structues like factories and spawn portals so attacking Onos will have to bear the explosion to get in attacking range.
Effective Turret-Placement:
Keep the factories out of sight. Onos don't have a lot of time to admire the view when they are inside. Remember that turrets cannot effectivly shoot through other structues, unlike the Offensive Chambers. Try building them in a rough C shape around Ono-entrances or lining your walls with them.
Good Men:
From first hand experience - An Ono will run from two heavy armored, HMG packing marines. Have them stay in the base and never leave it. This way if they get killed, they have a chance of reclaiming their HMGs before they dissappear.
Going Toe-to-Toe:
Try to do this when you are in the center of turrets. It is tempting to dodge between structures, but keep in mind - this blocks the turret's aim. You want the Ono to move as little as possible, this way your turrets can land the most bullets. Having a friend toss in grenades can be useful, but this doesn't result in a dead Ono, just a fleeing one. Never backpedal. Strafe and jump. Try jumping toward the Ono so as to land behind him. Quickly turn around, shooting, and jump again. This way he stays still for your turrets and will be forced to gore you as charge will be ineffective.
Prevent their creation:
Struggle endlessly to prevent them from getting three hives. Once this happens, the game gets a lot harder. Try stationing your main base inside an unoccupied hive location, or right beside one so your seige turrets are within range. If you see an Ono, try for all your worth to take out an enemy hive and keep it taken out. If you do not act quick, more Onos will evolve.
