ok, well I see many people complaining about others with 50+ res that dont use it. Usually they come up with the exuse/problem that they cant use fade well (I.E Me) Or, they are saveing up for onos. While in the mean time they get whined at because gorges/lerks and fades dont have as much res and this lone sulk is sitting there with 70 and climbing. Now in a "few" instances Even i dont save up res (less than 2 hive ect.) but i catch people calling me a res hoarder for the few (but often) times i go onos. I have no skill as a fade, im decent as a lerk but i hover around sluk, gorge and onos allot. When i dont feel like getting yelled at i go gorge and when i dont care (and the team has atleast 2 hives and a few rt's) I go onos. I dont get why people complain about others who cant really use their res on other lifeforms that they KNOW they suck at so for instance
A person KNOWS he should have gone lerk but he would have died within 15 seconds because of his leet skill he probably would be chastized for both, you dont win either way.
Or, the most funny thing is when people say OMFG WTF YOU HAVE 70 REZ GO FADE NUB! ... I had that said to me pleanty of times, and when i was pissed off i went fade to prove a point...
Me = fade = Sitting Target = Waist of 50 res = USELESS!!
I am not one of those nubz who refuse up and down NOT to go fade, its just its irrelevant to me because i dont have the skill there, i do have more skill in sulk and DEFIANTLY as a Cara(or Redempt)/Clerity/Focus Onos.
Dont get me wrong i hate res hoarders but i dont know if my definition of "Hoar/Hoarders" are as same as yours, I just feel like every time i mess up or do something for myself (I.E Team has 2 hives, and 60% of the RT's and go onos [purpose: possibly to take down other RT's ect.])
I may in some sense 'hoard' my res but im not sitting there watching, im playing as sulk or gorge and actually keeping up in the top 10 usually (in a 20/20 game)

Just communicate, and keep it polite \o/
About the fade thing, practice ftw.
I've never been a pro fade, but I put as much effort in it as possible, nobody made a fuss out of it.
As for being a hoarder, yes i do and no i dont. I contribute to the team and if we need the res i fork it over lol. It just depends upon everyones definition of "Hoarder"
(I rarely ever place OC's unless its in a tight corner where it can atleast hit the marine befor the marine hits it)
i'm the same dude, but as zaggy said, practice makes perfect. i practice every now and again (rarely actually) and i'm getting better, but i've still got a long way to go. same thing with lerk i guess.
personally i mainly gorge or onos. if i play 10 games in a row, i'm perma-gorge for at least 6 of em, gorge/skulk for about 2-3, and would onos once. but its extremely rare for me to "hoare" for onos at the start, i always drop a RT first, then see how the game develops, that way i always help the team, and no one can yell at me for being a "hoare". if they do yell at me, screw em, i've been mostly a perma-gorge for 5-6 games and i deserve to be onos.
the people that really annoy me are the "perma-fades". guys that never get hives, never get RT's, and only fade, fade fade, game after game after game. they justify their res whoring with the comeback "but i'm the only leet player getting the teams kills" yet if he hadnt been so selfish and gotten a hive, everyone would have leap, umbra, bile etc, not to mention another chamber for upgrades, meaning many more kills spread out over the team. and they are always the people that, when egging for their 9th fade in a row, yell at the others to get a hive! aargh! thats when i wish FF was on so i could eat their egg <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

dude, get regen/cele/SOF onos, and thank me later.
*edit* - to remove the proper spelling for "hoare"
Then of course there's the odd chance that a server has /giveres enabled, in which case you can just hand the res over to someone who can make a good use of it.
And last but not least... if there's really nothing else you can do for your team with the resources you have other than evolve to a higher lifeform, by all means, evolve! It is, after all, <i>your</i> resources and ultimately you can do whatever you see fit with it, so if I were in a situation like that, I'd see it as a chance to hone my skills as a lifeform I'm no good at. Only way to not suck at something is to do it until you get the hang of it, after all. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
also, generally I dont pay much attention to how much res i have unless im a gorge or if i really want lerk or something. otherwise im skulking and trying to locate marines and structures
<b>10 res:</b>

<b>20 res:</b>

- If you don't have 3 of each chamber available to you >>> see #2/#3/#4
- If a Hive has just been built >>> see #1 and #2/#3/#4
- If the Marines have just recently got jetpacks, and you have 3 of each chamber available >>> see #6
<b>30 res:</b>
<i>If nobody else is saving for the Hive, announce that you are saving for the Hive; if someone is taking care of the Hive, see below:</i>
- If your hive is being attacked >>> see #1 and #2/#3 OR see #5
- If you have a Hive growing that the Marines have discovered, and a PG and/or siege is going up >>> see #1 and #2/#3
- If you don't have 3 of each chamber available to you >>> see #2/#3/#4
- If a Hive has just been built >>> see #1 and #2/#3/#4
- If the Marines have just recently got jetpacks, and you have 3 of each chamber available >>> see #6<ol type='1'><li>Go Gorge (with adrenaline if you don't have an MC in the Hive) and heal the Hive and heal Fades, Onoses and Lerks that come back to the Hive. <u>This enables your higher lifeforms to spend less time regenerating health more time harassing the Marines</u></li><li>As Gorge, drop an MC in a Hive (on the opposite side of the Hive to where the sieges usually are). <u>This means Lerks will be able to Spore/Umbra safely from the Hive at the doorways and help keep the Marines from spawncamping. It also means any good Gorge can take celerity and spit at the entrances or even bilebomb any PG/TF/Sieges if they are close enough. Finally, if the Hive is still building, it means your team can use the MC to return to the other Hive to heal if there are no Gorges available, and then use Hive transport to get back to the building Hive to protect it (this is a great way for a Fade on very low health to stay alive if being chased).</u></li><li>As Gorge, drop a DC in a Hive (on the opposite side of the Hive to where the sieges usually are). <u>This means while you are Gorge the Hive will get Hive regen + Gorge healspray + DC regen, and even if you die the Hive will still get healing from the DC and will stay alive for longer.</u></li><li>As Gorge, if your team has chosen SC as either its primary or secondary chamber, drop an SC outside the Hive at a siege or PG spot (somewhere where it won't get walked into or shot easily). <u>This means your team will be able to spot Marines outside the Hive and prevent them from building a PG.</u></li><li>Go Lerk (with adrenaline if there isn't an MC in the Hive under attack). If the Marines are at the Hive entrances or inside the Hive, sit on top of the Hive and repeatedly spore/umbra them (do not fly out or try any fancy biting unless they are throwing grenades at you). If the Marines are in a room outside the Hive and sieging, fly to where you can see the entrnace to the room and spore inside it (do not fly in at all; keep about a fifth of your adrenaline bar spare in case you need to fly away back to the Hive). <u>This will keep Marines outside the hive room and low on health for easy kills. If they are welding eachother then they are not attacking - either way they are less of a threat. This will also put the Commander under more pressure and make him spend more res on medpacks, which could stop him or delay him from putting up a TF/Siege.</u></li><li>Drop OCs inside the Hive room or in any spot where the Marines might put a PG. <u>This will drain jetpackers' armour and make them much easier to take down.</u></li></ol>Basically, all of these uses of res help your team and are FAR more useful than saving for a flash Fade or a paper Onos. In most cases, saving for an Onos means you have denied your team of 6 chambers or a Hive and 2 chambers.

If two hives are up, consider getting adren and stomping like it's your job, cause it is.

Well scratch that i usually get adren also but as i said my main/default is Celerity/Focus/Redempt(or regen depending upon the situation)
I do find myself running out of energy allot so adren might be a salution to that but ill be slow XD
er... Well i figured maby i should change my playing style? for ns2 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" /> ...

Hopefully, as I believe was mentioned before, if the new resource model that both teams get is robust enough, no one will ever be considered a hoarder of resources again, but I doubt that will stop know it alls from still telling you how to play your game with un-solicited advice.
I always hope I do not end up on servers where I see other players call each other "nub", "######", or otherwise ###### each other out for no other particular reason but self-inflated egos and lack of maturity - as in a disability to play civilly and perhaps even friendly with others.
Something I really hope is rectified is that no matter what a player may choose to spend their resources / credit / cash / points / whatever-gets-me-the-equipment, it will be seen as silly to criticize anyone for those choices because all have something to contribute to the team game play of equal importance to the shared fun. All play styles should be rewarded for their participation in the game equally.
About the fade thing, practice ftw.
I've never been a pro fade, but I put as much effort in it as possible, nobody made a fuss out of it.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->Agreed, but I prefer to think of it in terms of what it can buy for the team.
IE: We still have just fist hive and two people have close to or over 50 res. One of them should drop the hive.
IE: It's the start of the game. If almost everybody caps a resource node and/or drops a chamber and a the remainer lerk or save for next hive or fade... resources will be comming much faster and you'll now not just have one fade but in a few min you'll have more. If aliens work together to get resources and hold them early on then the game is amazingly easier.
As long as you stay alive you are still helping the team by being a bullet-magnet. Tanking with a Fade is relatively simple, just remember to start heading for the exit whenever your armour reaches 0. In the early stages this guideline should be enough to keep you alive so you have more time to master the next step.</li><li><b>Learn to use Blink effectively</b>
Get yourself into the habit of walking as little as possible and Blinking the shortest distance. Never hold down Blink - it drains res faster than that time you just got out of a long car journey and were bursting for a pee. Instead, tap 'Blink' quickly to give you manageable bursts of speed. Always get Celerity as a Fade while you're learning, Adrenaline is an artificial crutch that will get you into bad Blinking habits. Once you'd got to grips with how far a 'tap' gets you, start trying to tap-Blink over objects in the way (ns_Origin is a good place to test this out). As you're doing this you'll get an idea for how much you can tap-Blink before running low on energy. As you get better at Blinking, you'll find you stay alive for longer, meaning you have more time to practise other areas of the Fade.</li><li><b>Learn to swipe</b>
This may sound a bit patronising, but attacking as a Fade is an acquired skill, because of the way you have to manage your energy reserves while Blinking and Swiping. A Fade with no energy is a sitting duck to Marine fire, especially Shotgun fire. Begin by learning with Focus, as it doesn't use as much adrenaline up as double-swiping. Plus, if you have Focus, you probably have 2 Hives and can use Metabolise to keep your health and energy topped up. It might be a good idea to try out the combat side of the Fade on a Combat server, but try to keep it to upgrade combiniations that are possible in Classic mode (i.e. don't get Adrenaline and Celerity, or Cara and Regen). As you practise you'll get a good idea of how many hits a Focus attack will do, and in turn when you play Classic you'll get a feel for what level of armour Marines currently have depending on how many hits they take. Finally, in rooms with high ceilings, don't be afraid to use the Z axis to shoot you up in the air, get back some adrenaline and health by Metabolising, and come back down to earth ready for kick some more Marine butt!</li><li><b>Learn to assess situations</b>
You'll need to count how many Marines are in an area before heading in. Of the utmost importance is the amount of Shotguns and HMGs in the field, as well as what level armour they are equipped with. As a Fade you'll be on the front lines for most of the game, if you kill someone with a Shotgun or an HMG, stick around and kill the guy who comes back for it before it disappears. Make sure that you keep the amount of heavy weapons in the field to a minimum. Make sure if you suddenly notice that they have upgraded their armour, you tell the rest of the team about it. Sometimes you may even want to Blink into a group, hit someone a couple of times and Blink back out in order to gauge a) what level armour they have and b) what strength weapons they have.</li><li><b>Learn to bunnyhop</b>
I put this at the end because you can be a 'good' Fade without using bunnyhop (but to be a great Fade you'd need to know how). I'm not going to explain how to bunnyhop, as I can only just about do it myself (without using mousewheel spam or a script), and there are plenty of guides on this already. Plus, for public play it's not really required.</li></ol>
Things like knowing the range of your attacks, knowing where your enemy is going to go (JP especially), knowing how to use your available abilities and/or environment to their/its maximum potential, and knowing your limits = win.
Master those and you've mastered the art of Fading.
Anywho, back to the topic..
To those complaining about the Fade 'hoars': Yes, whoring of res when other things like hives and chambers are needed <i>can</i> be a bad thing, it can also be a good thing though. If a team is heavily outbalanced in terms of skill, having a few good Fades can actually win you the game. Onos whoring is sorta similar.. But its situational. By the time you have enough res to become an Onos your team will either only have 1 hive (or 2 if you're lucky), which means you can only have one upgrade. On the other hand you could 'hoar' Onos and rush Marine base. Kill the Obs and then the Arms Lab and you've basically won unless you got a train of HA on your tail.
Edit: Hoar ftw.
And just so this post is still on topic, I don't mind how people spend their res as long as it's useful to the team. This does not include spamming OCs in a hive at the start of the game.
