For a Virtual World office intiative research
Hi, is there a list of Open Source MMo engines existing somewhere ?
On a voluntary basis, I am helping on a Virtual World project at the office but the engine they have chosen kinda sux from a designer point of view (Torque). So I was thinking about searching for all available Open Source MMO engines out there (or worst case scenario, not highly cost licensed) to try to find out a better solution that would ease on code source modifications and also, ease on designing the whole world itself.
Since a portion of the users do not have state of the art PCs (meaning not being able to run ET:QW at anything higher then low/normal setings), it has to be engines between 8 and 1 years old.
I do not realy know where to look for as MMO isn't a big part of my life.
Why MMO and not regular FPS engine ? Because, most VW projects involve more then 64 people connected in the long run.

It's an open source (GPL) graphics engine/mmorpg library that powers the mildly popular Saga of Ryzom.
Unfortunatly, I can't seem to find the web site that hosted the project as Ryzom was recently sold by Nevrax (the company that made the game) and nevrax.org seems to be down.
It sounds worlds better than Torque for your needs though.

I know about Ryzom since I have been playing since July (and following news about it sicne Oct-2nd). It is not a true 3d game. In the sense that you cannot jump and all players/NPCs are just moving about on a 2d plane. So that kind of restricts alot about what people would want in a Virtual World engine. However, I LOVE this game.
Isn't the point of it being open source is so that you can program that in yourself?
