Was a great idea. If any devs play Guild Wars you might know how convenient it is to be able to spectate matches at the touch of a button from any town, instead of having to connect to the server directly. It fills a gap between when you're feeling like performing the game, and when you just want to let your brain go on idle for a little while, but don't actually want to hang up playing just yet (kind of like wow).

Having a news system integrated directly with NS would be a huge hassle saver and would bridge some of the gap between the competitive community and the pub community. Once pubbers saw what competitive is like, a subset of them would become more interested in it, and they would realize that most of the people who can beat them are actually not cheating, they just *are* that good.

The idea is extendable too - you could easily end up with a community-based news service ala nsradio or nslearn, or maybe even entries from amped news if they decided to open up an NS2 section.

Of course no server should be forced to allow tons of spectators or to advertize via the news service, (which would clutter the list anyway) but if CAL or ANSL wanted to advertize the latest events, and allow a one-click connect to a configured HLTV, that would just be really cool as a community development system.

I think it would end up being one of those features that wasn't necessary but in hindsight people would look back on it and say "wow, how did we live without this?"

could have different regions of news: say international news posted by the ns devs, american news posted by a ansl or cal, european news posted by ensl, australian news posted by nspl etc

    Yes. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Could definitely make for a larger yet tighter community, too.

allowing news in general is awesome.

One thing I like is the versatility of the Message of the Day in the newer Source Games. Of course, some people are lame and lazy and just put a url to their forum up, but with a little work it could be really useful information, perhaps an updating button for special events, etc.
