movable armoury
I hope it havent been suggested before...

Consider a small armoury, limited in health, size and the amount of players it can supply at a time, but being able to move on the level on wheels/tracks. These new structures would be deployable only within a certain radius of the active CC, so escort will be needed. It wouldnt be upgradable.

Benefit: No need for med/ammo spam, no more armoury recycle-redrop

One of the suggestions in the weldbot thread{link} is to have it dispense ammo as well. This seems in line with your idea. I don't really think it's necessary because providing health and ammo is currently one of the comm's major jobs. I find it hard to believe that a bot would know when to dispense ammo or medpacks anywhere as well as a commander.

At least it would know how to give ammo. This is already better than 90% of commanders in ns.

maybe its an upgrade for the squad/weld flyerbot

you need to Use the bot to recive ammo/health like a armory
welding do the bot by its own

Introducing a commander-issued backpack would be neat aswell. You could carry like 4-5 times the normal amount of ammo and give it to your teammates whenever they need it.

Uhh... to... provide ammunition to your teammates?
  • darktimesdarktimes Join Date: 2007-12-24 Member: 63247Members
and why carry it when a comm can spam you whit packs?

i like the idea about a AI bot that weld teammates and when upgraded, a mini armory is
when its implemented the comm pack drops can be removed, then its unfair when a HA whit hmg in a corner camping going to be spamed whit medikits and ammopacks

Oh, because I was under the impression that commanders could make ammunition appear from the ceiling pretty much on-demand.

The fact that comms don't often give out ammo is a good point though. I don't really think a backpack is the solution, more like an ammo count over the players head or near the bar by his/her feet.

I would not like to see the ammo cap increased per player by any means. Far too many spend far too long on the armoury as it is.

It would be better to have a cheap but limited armoury that could be dropped anywhere on the map already built. It can't be upgraded, will dispense ammo and meds at 1/2 or 2/3's the rate of the normal armoury for either 2 min or X dispenses before breaking down. To get this you need regular armoury elsewhere. This would allow the Com to drop meds for a small squad in one dump getting a better economy for the rest. Coms would still need to drop single meds/ammo, espeically when moving to a location or during combat as the marines can not afford to stop or drop their guard respectfully in these cases. Plus if your just medding one marine the cost would not be worth it.

Alternativly it could be a map feature. The COM pays to activate inbuilt ammo/med bays on the level, stocking them with stored items that remain in the system untill used.

I wouldn't mind a weld/med/ammo bot with limited dispensing capabilites that respawn over time. Health and ammo drops make it harder for the commander to decide on the larger battle and focus his mind on just one instance of the fight. Anyways does anyone know if they are going to incorporate the weld bots into the squad spawning system they have been talking about?

    ..why?

Why do weld bots and squad spawning have to be related?

I will say I like the idea of the droppable temporary armoury/dispenser though. (Making it slower though? I don't think so..) It just wouldn't be as useful in the middle of a firefight as dropping meds/ammo manually is, and it's also less versatile. (With the manual dropping, the commander is like a guardian angel; but with the dispenser, a soldier has to take his attention away from the fight to reload/heal. - unless you took both ideas, and made the dispenser do instant healing/ammo like the commander does, it'd mean you only took your attention away from battle for a moment; or none at all if you made it auto-heal/stock within a certain radius. Of course it's still not as versatile.)

They don't have to be I just happen to think it's an simpler solution which is why I linked it. The topic is ammo distribution not spawning.

Back on topic: Adding ammo dispensing functions to bots will steal the commander's spotlight. (or just won't be of any actual use at all) The new commander role will basically just be sitting there with thumbs up his butt yelling at people for not being mustang clones instead of actually doing something that influences the flow of gameplay.

Do you want to add the bot in as to make commanding easier? I don't think that's a good idea, commanding is already too easy as it is.

Dont forget about the planned buffs the devs mentioned. You may want to limit the number of 'spells' the commander can cast to... erm... make it simple? oO
Imagine a FOB (forward operating base for those who arent interested in iraq <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />) that the commander can only drop within limits of the active CC. The comm controls the building directly and it should move slowly on tracks. While moving it functions like an armoury (hp+ammo), when deployed (should take 10-15 sec?) upgrades can be applied on it. Like the ability to build siege, turrets, IP (could solve the squad spawn system), upgrade different ammo types... you name it.
Its in the rines interest to follow it otherwise they dont get medpack nor ammo, though the commander will have other stuffs to throw at them apart of those 2

Oh forgive me, the spells. Those will make micromanaging a whole lot harder.

I mean all of those peons and buildings I'm macroing and fending off reavers while microing hydras against psionic storms, where can I possibly find the extra time to drop ammo packs?

    Boring.
