It's entitled "Sin."
I'll explain more about it later, but I stayed up all night last night making it for a show today so I'm dead tired and off to bed. In the meantime, enjoy!

I look gimpy in this picture, but this will give you the scale, and show it at it's actual contrast ratio.

Is there a symbolic reason behind this or is it just flawed logic?
No, it doesn't.
The inside of the peel is various quotes from scripture, the apple flesh is covered in in the writings of science. The name of the picture, "Sin", intones that the picture represents humanity peeling away religious influence and uncovering the world though science, rather than dogma.
Additionally there's possibly a symbolic link between the Adam and Eve apple, and this apple.
I'm not usually one to enjoy art in this form. Classical music, I love, but art generally doesn't do anything for me. This, on the other hand, is pretty damn awesome.

Might it be possible to get a (high detail) scan for wallpaper usage?
You are all shallow and pedantic.
<img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> very nice piece of art there. Beautiful. I won't interpret it, I just like the way it looks <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
If you don't quite understand what Im saying I can supply a picture or something.
I thought it was feminism, as the wiminz are shedding the skin of the oppressive man! God damn I hate symbolism.
Neat picture.

Scythe you're a dummy. That's not religion, that's just going from the beginning of writing to the present. It starts out with cave drawings and cuneiform, then it moves up through Egyptian and Hebrew and Sanskrit and Greek and whatever. Unless that snippet of German is religious stuff, you're WRONG like a Scientologist. I think it's the march from the past to the future.
So why does the present consist of DNA code? That's not a new invention.
Bravo.
The way he's holding her, it's almost... filthy. He's about to kiss her and she's pulling away...
The way his leg is smashed up against her... look how he's painted the blouse, sort of translucent, you can make out her breast, and it's sort of touching him... it's really pretty torrid, don't you think?
And of course you have the onlookers peeking out like they're all shocked. They wish.
I must admit, when I see a painting like this, I get emotionally... erect.
<span style='color:#000000;background:#000000'>sorry, whenever I think of art criticism, I get reminded of a certain scene from my favorite movie. awesome sketch. allow me to be the first to point out the coil of apple skin is somewhat ophidian... (edit: looks like I'm not even the first one to point that out -_- I have nothing constructive to add here.)</span>

Spot on. (except for the part about scythe being a dummy. Though I was really only putting the works in chronological order, I did find that all the recent works I'd picked were scientific, and did make the division between peel and apple between them to elevate the scientific works a bit. I didn't mean to imply that the more "humanities" related texts were to be discarded with the peel or anything like that. It's not all religious, there's plenty of epic poetry, and other things mixed in. I'm going to do a blog post about it shortly in which I'll source everything. In the meantime, props to whoever can identify the works. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> )
Basically the idea for the piece was brought on my the prompt for my friend's art show, which was a quote from paradise lost. One of the things that has always bothered me about the biblical creation story as an allegory is that it portrays knowledge as being evil and against god, so I wanted to respond to that.
Ah hey, you're right; couldn't tell from the thumbnails.
He's WRONG! It's not scripture at all!
I'm just gloating over Scythe. It's a thing I do.
I thought about it exactly the same as Scythe interpreted it, although it's not completely what moultano had in mind. I've made a negative of it (the writings look like glowing on the apple, rather than being written on it as in the original, what I find quite neat) and put it as my wallpaper. It's gonna stay there for looong time.

Yes, yes, but the texts are different.
Aye, but anyone looking at it closely could figure that one out. Just takes a little bit of time.

I guess many people would think that just looking at the creation story. But, if you look at the Bible as a whole, wisdom and knowledge is praised as a good thing. For example, the entire book of Proverbs explains the value of wisdom. Just a thought.
