and

<a href="http://imageshack.us" target="_blank"><img src="http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/5050/graphicserror2ta6.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a>

this was happening when i was trying to run ns in open gl widescreen 1680x1050, so i updated the drivers and now it happens when ever i try and run open gl. From this i conclude that it is the drivers but every one i have been able to find and try give the same result. Any help would be appreciated. I can run it in D3D mode and there is no probs except for a poor framerate. Im running a 7800GT so it should be able to handle this fine, and PSU is 500W.

Thanks
Narcil

Half Life (and NS in particular) do NOT play well with OGL. The solution is run in D3D.

Which leaves us with your REAL problem:
    Bad frame rates in D3D <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Out of curiosity, what do you call poor frame rates?

poor frame rates being 60 (vsync on) in no action and around 20-25 when there are lerks gassing up the place and action going on. its not the low frame rate thats the issue its the change from 60-20 thats annoying. messes up ur aim when ur tracking something etc.

im prty sure the 7800GT should run ns at const 60 frames no matter what is happening on screen. I mean it runs tf2 at a 40-50 frames and in big fights it may drop to 25-30. so yea not sure whats happening

well, what are your full system specs?

You need to remember that HL runs on the GoldSrc engine, whicj is kinda CPU intensive (CPU tends to be more important then graphics card).

the original half-life was built for opengl. they only added d3d as a plug-in.

did they change the original HL engine since source came out, or something?
