Video Setting Change Failed

When ever i try to change my video settings off of software (which NS doesn't support) to either of the other ones, i get a pop-up saying the change failed, and that it was returning to software mode. How can i fix this problem? Thanks in advance. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tsa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::tsa::" border="0" alt="tsa.gif" />

    what are your system specs?
    Is your config.cfg write protected?

well, the only thing it could have problems with spec wise is my nvidia 6800, or my OS, which is winxp, i've played NS before on this system, so i know that isnt the problem, i'll check the write only and get back to you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tsa.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::tsa::" border="0" alt="tsa.gif" />

also make sure your drivers are fully updated.

Alright, i just made sure my drivers were fully up todate, and both my HL, and my NS config.cfg's were NOT read only, so i tried making them both read only and opengl returned again with the error, D3D successfully switched over, however, crashes the game when i try to connect to a server.

    Ok,

Let me clear a few things up:

Make sure that your video drivers are up to date.
Make sure direct X is up to date.
Make sure Windows is up to date
Make sure that NS is installed and setup correctly: Use this guide: <a href="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=89619&st=0&start=0" target="_blank">http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/index....t=0&start=0</a>

I am especially emphasizing that you should change your video options in Half-Life and not in NS.
Just stick to the guide and it should work.

If it is still bot working:
Hint: As you can see from the guide: You need a legal copy of Half-Life to play NS. So if you dont have one, buy one. Again refer to the guide.

well, one thing to point out is that you really don't want to try and run in OGL as HL (and NS even more so) really does not play well in OGL.

How/when does the game crash? (Exact error messages/CTD/blue screen/whatever)
