Tips, Advice, News, Gossip, and Getting The Word Out
I've been noticing tips and what not in the PC Gamer magazine, like this month:
pages 16-17 Eyewitness - Living The Dream - PC Gamer's Ten Step Guide To Becoming An Indie Games Entrepreneur
Also, I noticed this on page 18: Publishers And Developers Get Steamed - Valve Hands Out It's Steamworks Tools For Free
I hope Unknown World's got a piece of this action.
There is some other stuff, but I am not sure if I am allowed to like re-print it here.
I could have sworn I remember there were some connections between PC Gamer and Unknown Worlds already, in that there was some printed love for the Half-Life mod a while back. Try to get on their pod cast, featured in the magazine, or just mentioned some how, like one of us writing in to the Letters section. Also, have any of us tried starting something nice over on their forums on their website?
Also, in terms of real world location, how far are PC Gamer offices from the new Unknown World's ones? I know that not everyone in a city knows each other, but there my be a actual physical connection that could be made here that would allow for say, a budding relationship at a coffee shop or some other local hang out. Network, right?
This thread is kind of like the "Blizzard Tips" thread, only it also covers just the broad subject of PCG + UW. They like Indie games, you guys are just starting up...
As an side note too, I am wondering if I should start a thread about Valve at all, since you are using Source, right? And I am really curious what that meeting you had with them at one time mentioned in the pod cast I think was about and how that went. Could NS2 be a potential Portal or Left 4 Dead, in that something that puts a gleam in Valve's eye and they want to be a part of? Maybe that does need its own thread, but I don't have enough on that for a starting post yet, I think.

I would imagine magazine cover for ns2 would be the best way to advertise plus maybe a front space in the steam shop plus popup on launch.

NS2 will never get on the front cover of any publication simply because its not a commonly known title and wouldn't generate a lot of sales from store shelves. PC Gamer recently had a cover story all about upcoming shooters and featured a lot of "small" previews, and I was disappointed to see NS2 wasn't included. Maybe I'll email them about it...
Getting a one page article in PC Gamer would be excellent and likely generate a lot of interest.
