Dynamic infestation?

<div class="IPBDescription">Hammer editor</div>Will level designers beable to add an entity in hammer that allows designers to go ingame and dynamicaly edit infestation? I ask this because I'm sure that when a hive is placed the infestation will start infesting. But what if we want something to already be infested? I had an idea for my map and I was thinking about how it would look in NS2.

Also, how will infestation effect doors? Will it lock them or still allow doors to be opened/closed? And will it grow in vents blocking things from getting in/out?

Having areas of expedient growth for DI would be good also - for example, if it was in the lore that DI would grow faster in hospitable environments, and if heat was considered a positive environment, you could place a growth enhancer near a generator, so that DI would spread over it faster.

I'm not sure how this would work as it not rendered in the same way... Hammer doesn't allow you to do that, I think you'd have to ask VALVe to include that feature. I guess you should try going on the steampowered forums and asking somebody involved with the development of Hammer.

since they have a fully licensed source engine, Hammer might not even be the level editor supplied with the game. It most likely will, but im sure they could give out a modified hammer it if they wanted to.

I thought the Hammer editor was a separate license? I didn't know that was part of the commercial SDK... are you sure?

Regardless, it's still not rendered the same as in game, is it? I had thought the 3D camera in textured model is rendered through a more static means using basic windows APIs. (note how it flickers as it is refreshing the few as you pan the camera)

oh i could be wrong, i just figured it was all together.

I bet they could easily add an entity to control aspects of DI though if it is the same editor.
