<div class="IPBDescription">aka Quakecon</div>Lots of companies nowadays have a presence at prominent LAN parties. Whether there are prizes of certain games/gear from companies or they just sponsor the LAN, they are getting their message out straight to their number one customer. If the NS team wants to promote their game while having some fun along the way, attending some big LAN parties might be a good idea. Quakecon is a few months away and is the largest LAN in north america, so maybe if Flayra and the gang had a presence their, they could receive some well needed attention on NS2. Or maybe if they don't the time to visit all these LANs, a 'press kit' could be developed, maybe containing some posters, cards, stickers, etc, that fans could hand out at big LANs. Either way I think something needs to be done to promote NS2 at some of the big LAN parties, as they are the haven for avid PC folk.

Heck, I run a local LAN party every week and would love a couple of random swag from NS2.
Im tossing this up. Natural Selection is a hard game to pitch at people. It takes a while to understand it, and most people at first glance are confused and not really interested by it. Or maybe im wrong. I can just imagine people going "what?" and not caring.

I was at a lan years ago and someone showed me you could been an onos, and I haven't looked back since
Also visuals and promotional talk should not be about in depth hardcore gamer gameplay. It should be about the visuals and core gameplay, the first thing you get into contact with when playing the game and should be the first thing that make you go WOW. LEt's face it, visuals sell a game more initially then talk about what it can do. AFter they see it amazing stuff they usually get interested in the "what is it" talk. So...
1a. get your visuals and cinematics beyond awesome as an eyecatcher (the NS1 trailer is what drew me here for NS1 for instance)
1b. Cory's artwork!
2. talk about basic stuff you can do
3. hint at the core gameplay, hinting at it will work as a lure.
4. let people playtest a demo? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
NS1.0 (version) had all the cinematic visuals and eyecandy because of very detailed maps. Once it got more established, the eye candy gave way for more streamlined map version that ran smoother and of course were less laggy. But in the case of their new engine, the visuals can be awesome, while not stressing out the engine (hopefully). But still the things they did on goldSRC is simply the work of magic (and nanites).
Things that made you go WOW for NS1 were of course: visuals and RTS+FPS+WTF
Things that will make you go WOW for NS2? Well dynamic infestation, the demo video of the engine real time lighting system and editing (these already make me go WOW and it was just concept+ns1 models). The concept of the game is simply WOW material. Still NS is imho the only successfull RTS+FPS hibride, NS2 will probably be the second > more wow material?
