Hardcore Mode

Combat Only
Hi! New to the forums but been loving the game for years,

Just a quick suggestion! There's a server with a specified version of combat called "Hardcore Mode." I'm not sure if you've heard of it? I'm paraphrasing and the creators may have tweaked it, but since I played it I have really liked it.

This is for Combat Mode only. Essentially it works by having certain items, like shotguns, drop for marines when they die and lifeforms, like fade, get lost when aliens die.

A breakdown by memory:

1.) Marines all start with welders (this was an afterthought to balance the gameplay I think, but it's working so far)
2.) Shotgun drops after death (it remains to be picked up again for 30 seconds)
3.) HMG / GL drop after death
4.) JP / HA are removed after death (although there was talk of only having to earn one point to regain them, same with HMG / GL)

When an item or ability is lost, so are the points and the levels. It's key that the levels are lost too, so the points aren't exponentially harder to regain.

1.) Aliens lose third and fourth hive abilities completely (which means no leap... jury's still out there)
2.) Gorges are free
3.) Lerks are 1 point
4.) Each hive ability has only one choice (for example no cara and redempt or focus and SOA... etc)
5.) Lerk / Fade / Onos become skulks after death and the points (and levels) are lost.

There were so many little tweaks they were testing, and I'm sure it's not as good as it could be, but, since you're asking, that's my suggestion. Test out a Hardcore Mode of your own and see if it warrants sponsorship from you guys. Peace!~

I played this mod a couple of months ago and really liked it. This was before weapon drop was added though. Is KustomKarnage still the only server using it?

Sounds completely rigged towards carapace/regen/redemption fades. Well, so is regular combat so I don't really care I guess.

Well remember only one upgrade per chamber and no meta. Fades were a bit too powerful when I was playing this but weapon/drop on death would help this immensely. Also fades are supposed to dominate for a 3 point investment.

Hardcore Combat was designed to fix the balance and fun problems inherent in Combat. Asmodee did the coding, but we both got a little tired of trying to balance around fades, because with no meta or acid, one hive ability each, singleton upgrades per chamber, recyclable weapons on rines, automatic welders, and level draining lifeforms, fades still raped the other team as soon as they came out.

The last tweak we never got around to doing was a revision where carapace was removed entirely. That might have fixed fades enough to be playable even after they reared their ugly heads.

Something to think about for LUA Combat since UWE have hinted that Combat will not be officially supported in the first NS2 release.
