Microphone issue

I have searched to see if this was already covered and as far as I can tell it hasn’t. I got a mic recently and it works fine in Windows, in Steam, and tests just fine in the NS options but in game my mic isn't recognized. When ever I try to talk all I get is the exclamation Icon and when i look at the player roster with tab everyone has a Voice icon except me. I don't understand I have everything turned on but NS seems to think I don't have a mic despite it testing just fine in everything I try. As far as i can tell I have everything set up correctly and I don't know what to do.

Have you tried on various servers? They might be using different codecs an for some reason one might be bugged for you. How about on your own LAN server?

Are you running any programs on the background? I had problems on some old sound card and ventrilo combined with NS. I solved it by running microphone via my sound card and sounds via my integrated sound card, since no other combination worked.

Are you sure about the exclamation mark? I recall some HL mods bind wrong command if you try to bind the voice command on options menu.

I may be wrong (its been awhile since I've had a mic) but I don't think the Microphone icon actually shows up next to your name while looking at the Score screen.

At any rate, when you go to 'test' your Microphone, are you sure you have the Enable Microphone checkbox enabled? And if so is the Voice Transmit/Receive levels high enough?
I would check that bind too. I think its 'K' by default?

Did your microphone come with software? If so I'd install it. If it had software that came with it and you installed it, did you do so after or before you installed Natural Selection? If it was after I may try a re-install of Natural Selection if all else fails, or borrow a different mic and see if it works any differently.

you tested the mic in NS but it doesn't work when actually playing?

    Something is simply missconfigured then.

    What is your PTT key?
use voice_loopback 1 (or something, can't remember exactly, but tab completion will get it) to hear exactly what you sound like.

Well it's kind of embarassing to say but It turns out that I wasn't using the "talk" button, SIGH. Sorry for wasting your time and thank you for all your help. I feel like an idiot lol.
