Medieval Natural Selection?

Hello good NS peoples! I've been following NS along since about 1.1/1.2. I really enjoyed the combination of FPS and RTS elements within your excellent mod. When 2.X came out along with combat eventually, I thought that it was an great addition to it which allowed for other gamer types to get involved. In that spirit, I would like to suggest a new idea for a different direction that the NS team could consider.
Perhaps it has been done before and I don't know about it, but I thought it couldn't hurt to throw a post up and see. I think it would be awesome to have a Natural Selection-like medieval mod. The basic concept of at least 1 army against another in a first person shooter environment, but with the use of buildings in a dark ages type concept. Think Hexen but with buildings and up to date multi player content. Dark dungeons, castles, caves, churches and all other sorts of typical medieval fantasy locations. I played with Castle Legos in my childhood and couldn't help but imagine an awesome world with building medieval type battles with a splash for fantasy lore in the spirit of NS.
Please give feedback! Thanks for your time. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

other than that, why the ###### not? you could brobably do a mod like this for ns2. some custom models...some custome maps...and some lua scripting
hell, you could make a whole new game that way
always fun with variation
Are you suggesting having <i>SPACE MARINES</i> in <i>SPACE SHIPS</i> and <i>ALIENS</i> fighting in the <i>MEDIEVAL TIMES</i> with <i>CASTLES</i> and <i>KNIGHTS </i>and <i>DUNGEONS</i> ... why not a <i>PRINCESS </i>too?
I'm not sure if the concept of time occurs to anyone here, but, <i>SPACE MARINES</i> (from the future) and <i>CASTLES </i>(from the past) ...
anyone see where I'm going with this?

Stargate: SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis... both involving lots of the same technology we see in NS and expect to see in NS2 and technologically superior Aliens who often find themselves on worlds with medieval themes to them.
I don't see why this wouldn't work as a modification to NS2 but I wouldn't want to see it implemented into NS2 by the developers.
gg.........
although i like the idea it wouldnt be the same game
You overlooked some important facts...
The powerful aliens (enslaved humans) intentionally keep all the planets they've visited in a state of technological infancy so that they cannot rise up and rebel. (applicable to the Goa'uld and the Wraith)
In NS, the aliens are just ramped-up mammal-type predators, that somehow get onto these facilities, and the game is set way in the future (i think) where as Stargate is set in the present.
Oh, and if there was a world that was very far behind in technology... why would they be fighting two strange armies, the Kharaa would have decimated them, and if not then the marines... well... they just brought guns along to a sword fight <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
and then there's the question of why the Marines would be going to defend a planet of medieval castle-dwellers when their precious mining colonies are under attack <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />
its just all too weird and ... silly for a NS game, plus the art team would have to do a TON of extra work for some bogus mode that doesn't make sense <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

and don't fight me on Stargate, I own and have seen every episode, twice ^^

i dont think he's suggesting that at all. if you actually read the original post, he never mentions anything futuristic whatsoever. Red Orchestra uses the Unreal engine for their WW2 modification..... yet do you see the wehrmacht carrying shock rifles and sludgeguns???
he's merely stating that he would like to see a RTS/FPS set in a medievil setting, with possibly a bit of fantasy thrown in - by creating a mod for NS2. while he does say he would like a natural selection styled medieval game, i think he's referring more to the actual gameplay than the sci-fi aspect of it.
when NS2 is released the devs have stated it should be very easy to create your own mod in LUA, and i cant wait to see what interesting new mods are created from it, like this suggestion. hell you can even go and create a god damned stargate mod if you really want to...
and the fact that it was in the Ideas and Suggestions forum lead me to jump to the conclusion he wanted NS2 to be medieval, hehe.
this forum is meant for ideas about NS2, not really for NS2 Mods... I guess there's not really a place to discuss that stuff yet... and it's difficult (atleast for me) to step back and think of mods for NS2 when NS1 was a mod itself.
and as for a Stargate mod... there's been so many bad ones. Leave it for the TV/Big Screen <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" />
and what about sg-tls? it sure looks damn fine to me
I remember playing that map, it was a fun change of pace, thank you for making it <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
Though, at the time I have no idea how well it played in a regular match, there was like only me one other player on at the time.
Needless to say, the art direction has helped me think of the game in different ways, like after playing your map, I wondered if a Marine Commander would always have access to/control of the nanites that they build structures and equipment out of... A fight on a planet without the space station/colony tech, like say a Kharaa planet, would be a very different situation for marines, wouldn't it? But then, why don't the marines just nuke places from orbit? Hmm...
Definitely reminded me of a AvP comic story I once read that featured the idea of what it would have been like if it was a viking who was the one facing off against Alien "dragons".
So, again, thank you <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />
