anyone hop aboard the Braid train? I hadn't been following it or anything, but it, like, blew up the game scene this week so I gave it a whirl and was pretty blown away too. Gorgeous artwork, gorgeous music, really refreshing gameplay, incredibly evocative prose (I won't say plot, because I think it's a major mistake to think of it as having a true plot).
The game revolves around the theme of "time", basically. It has messages about loss, memory, regret, perception, good intentions, all tied to the flow of time, and all themes are expressed in the gameplay, which is puzzley platformy.
I definitely recommend it more for older gamers. The plot definitely would not have resonated so strongly for me ten years ago, but with some more life experience, I can feel everything it's trying to evoke, and it really got to me.
12 bucks on xbox live. I beat it in about 4 or 5 hours, may take longer for most since you really have to think outside the box.

ARE YOU CALLING ME STUPID
Stupid at Star Wars.
Played for 2 hours or so before realising it was kinda late so I crowbarred myself away from it.
My flatmate had good fun watching and trying to help me work out the puzzles too =D
Couldn't help but notice the speed run achievement... does that include the puzzle pieces or can you just sprint through the levels to try and get it? XD

I think you have to get the pieces too =x I wouldn't want to try for it - even if you know all the puzzles, some of the platforming can be pretty tough to get right on your first try
Anyways, I'll be looking forward to the PC release. Someone better bump this topic when the time comes! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
(I don't have an xbox360)
You've got a PC, dontcha? So no problem.
I'm looking forward to Braid but I can't say I'm anticipating enjoying the "prose" as you called it, DiscoZombie. It lists the book "Einstein's Dreams" as a big inspiration and that book was so awful I became convinced that being a writer is 99% luck and 1% talent. In the case of that book the talent was missing, which is why it's such a short book.
at any rate, the demo is free on xbox live, as for all arcade games (that I know of). and the levels only get better from the world in the demo...
Edit: Strangely enough I completed both puzzles within about 30 minutes of posting this. Neither one was freakishly hard. it was more that I had forgotten certain things, and the solutions I thought were correct, weren't, and theres no point in trying to brute force any of the puzzles in braid. The problem is never that you need to try harder, but that you need to think harder.
Also, the mechanic in world 6 is, in reflection, not all that bad. I just have trouble making decisions, which made it difficult to use.
Furthermore.. the final world: Amazing. I can't even say more. There isn't quite a word for it. It blew my mind.
As a tip to anyone who is playing through it currently, or thinking of playing through it: Don't check a Walkthrough, don't consult an FAQ.. hell, don't read reviews or watch gameplay videos.
The essence of the game is in epiphanies. Everything in it is based around the feeling of sudden realization, and if you take a shortcut, have someone else show you how, it becomes pointless, and the game is too amazing to be made pointless.
On that note, when I got frustrated and stuck, Geometry wars seemed to work wonders for helping me clear my mind so I could approach the problem differently.
Game sounds cool, perhaps a little too deep for me to fully comprehend. I'm not a type of person who reads much but I do appreciate shiny graphics.
Only thing bothering me is I couldn't manage to read one of the books properly. I don't want to say any more for fear of ruining anything; this game is a bit like portal. It's short, sweet and the less you know the better =D

It's a good point, but instead you are tying your software to an online service. In the long run, the xbox360 games will still be playable and the steam bought games will not.
Personally I just prefer the PC gaming- I believe it is because of the convenience of online stores and also definitely that almost all the popular games for consoles are FPSes... and keyboard and mouse is (still) infinitely better for an FPS than a gamepad.
Neither of these are true for braid, but I don't have an Xbox360 and don't play enough console games to warrant a subscription to xbox live (which I assume you need to buy this game)
But to return to the matter at hand: Can those of us without a 360 and with no wish to acquire one still get this game somehow?
Not until later this month, according to the site.
lol, silly as always LF =3
